You can try giving him a shower and see if he cleans his own eyes. Turn the shower on and get the temperature to about room temp. Do not make the water hot! Place you chameleon on a plant/branch in the shower and angle the shower head to the wall so you chameleon gets the mist splashing off the...
Your enclosure needs much more foliage and coverage for the animal. Closing eyes is a sign of stress. Stress is induced by feeling exposed by lack of plant cover and in a new environment. A newly acquired animal should be left alone and not handled whatsoever for a while. They need to acclimate...
I use one nozzle in each 2x2x4 enclosure. It gives me more than enough coverage for the cage. I don't know how you want to set up your area, but I keep my setup simple. I use a drainage tray like the one you mentioned, and a 5 gallon bucket as a reservoir. I'll be upgrading to a RO/DI system...
MistKing Starter System is your best bet, in my humble opinion. Then all you would need to be up and running is a water reservoir, like a bucket. MistKing is extremely popular in the chameleon community (I use one too). I have no issues with mine and parts are readily available to set up your...
Go to the store and buy some bulbs of different wattages. Try each of them in your fixture and measure the temps each time. A little trial and error goes a long way.
Not sure why you posted this in the Pygmy Enclosure section... Please keep us updated on your new chameleon. As said above, your enclosure needs some major help and you should take the advice given here seriously.
His casque is a bit small , if he is as old as you say he is. His supplementation schedule should be fixed as soon as possible. Also, what are you gut loading your feeders with?
I use plain household bulbs for my enclosures. To get my temps where I wanted them to be, I went to Home Depot and bought bulbs ranging from 50W-100W. From there, I experimented with them to get where I wanted his basking spot to be. You can adjust basking spot height and move the fixture around...
He looks a little dehydrated. Personally, I'm of the opinion that an automatic misting system is an absolutely essential piece of equipment. Before I got my MistKing, I noticed that my hand misting sessions weren't enough to trigger my Veiled's drinking response. Misting sessions need to be long...
I've never kept an Oustalet's before, so I won't hazard a guess at your first few questions. I just know they need lots of water and lots of space! As for feeders, I usually buy from Rainbow Mealworms. They are close by for me, but also ship fast anywhere in the US.
Twice the width is not preferable to twice the height. Height is important for arboreal animals to establish temperature and humidity gradients. My Veiled and Panther's enclosures are both 48" tall. 48"x24"x24" is generally regarded as the minimum for adults. If you're going to house your animal...
Good looking little guy. For changes, I would get swap the mealworms out for superworms. Superworms are easier to digest and are more nutritious. Also add in some variety like dubia roaches, silkworms, hornworms, black soldier fly larvae, etc. That Fluker’s gutload stuff is garbage. Toss it and...
