Thanks so much, I appreciate the kind words!
I am hoping that patience will pay off and he'll get some amount of sight back, if not all - but if not, as long as the rest of him is healthy I can deal with the added care of a Cham with blindness. This guy is just so gentle and calm - I just...
Hey, I just wanted to thank everyone for their replies; I've been pretty busy with one of my other chams who had a feeding accident and had his tongue amputated! Oh the joys of chameleon keeping! I wouldn't have it any other way! :D
Kingston is doing the same today as the day before, and the...
So a friend called me about 8 months ago to tell me about the chameleon her son's best friend had recently purchased. It was a beautiful 4 month old male red bar Ambilobe. The friend (24 years old) had purchased the Cham AND the entire set up, "as is" from a pet store - not having a clue how to...
He was a beautiful boy, so terribly sorry for your loss. It's never easy losing a Cham but to have one pass so unexpectedly is a shock. I also would recommend a necropsy in order to know exactly what caused his loss. RIP little guy. :(
Travis your pictures do them justice! They are as lovely in person as in the pictures! I just love Naboo - he's got wonderful colouring and is so gentle and sweet. Gizmo's veil reminds me of a big comma - he's very handsome and his turquoise colouring reminds me of Camo! And Archer, well a...
I have to chime in on his thread because I think it's absolutely fantastic that Waldo will be heading to the HOC - in my opinion the perfect place for any Cham as I know they give all their beautiful chameleons the very best love and care possible! My only wish is that I had been online early...
Jann, pssh, everybody - thank you for your advice and concern. It's nice to know there is info and advice from others who have lived through this problem and succeeded!
Dexter is home now and was SO happy to see me! He does have his retractor muscle although it looks bad right now, an inch...
Thanks everyone for your kind words - I'm feeling a bit better today about all of this, done some research and feel like I know what to expect when I get him home now (going to pick him up within the hour!) I am very relieved to hear about the spring coil muscle and will talk to my vet about...
Great, thanks so much! Question: as Dexters tongue was fully retracted when he bit down, the amputation was performed quite far back which means he will have little tissue there to 'work' the chewed food down his throat. Will he find a way to swallow without the food just sitting there choking...
Awe, thanks everyone! I think tomorrow things will be a bit more clear in my head. I know he'll get through and so will I....regret is such a nasty thing!
Thanks for your kind words.
Ahhhh thanks Travis, I appreciate your kind words. Poor guy has a bit of a long road ahead but I'm nothing if not dedicated to him (them all!) Just wish we could have a 'do over'. :o
I don't often hand feed my chameleons for this very reason, but today I fed my (coveted) 6 month old male veiled baby 3 freaking crickets by hand and on the third one his tongue hit and stuck to my finger - but he didn't know, it stuck and he CHOMPED down - I could hear the crunch - and my heart...
Angie I am so very sorry to hear of Teal'c's loss, and your poetic tribute to her moved me to tears. Carry your love for her in your heart always. Thinking of you. RIP Teal'c.
Will he eat from your hand? I have changed some of my chams in the past from free range eating to cup feeding but my chams would all eat from my hand and it was no problem at all putting the feeders in a cup for them. The scuffling sounds of the feeders on the sides of the cup tends to attract...
Yes, you don't mention supplements! These are required for overall health and without them he will die a long painful death. Also, for a young guy such as Liam, I would feed him as much as he can eat in a 5 minute timeframe and try to keep away from mealworms as they are not good for chams as a...
