    Please help me. (Male?) Oustalet.

Is your Oustie an import or WC from florida? In my experience with WC adults from florida, 10-15% don't acclimate to captivity- I treat all prophylactically with Panacur, provide lots of hydration, and keep then outdoors in natural sunlight as much as possible. I had a friend lose a couple...

When can i remove the eggs?

I would let her fill in the hole and then let her climb back into her perch. I generally don't interfere with this natural behavior unless the is a medical reason to interrupt it. As soon as she is out of the laying bin and back on a perch you can pull the laying bin out of the cage. Be sure to...

    Oustalet's Chameleon Facts

In my experience males are some shade of brown, beige, or sandy colors. Females are usually a shade of green/olive and whites. One of the females I have was a brilliant mix of yellowish & green, with some red, black, green, and brown right after I caught her. After she laid her first clutch of...

I assume Cami is a veiled? The eggs look fertile to me. Make sure she gets plenty of hydration and calcium dusted crickets- will help her recover from the stress of egg laying-

    Oustalet's Chameleon Facts

Matt, The folks above are spot on regarding Oustalet's- I keep mine similar to Veileds and Panthers- I kept all mine outdoors year-round when I lived in south florida. I currently have 2 adult females, residing indoors here in Las Vegas, I will start moving them outdoors by late Feb, weather...

Exciting news!!! First Nosy Be clutch!

I haven't bred panthers, but I have bred Veileds and Oustalet's- I put 50:50 vermiculite/perilite in a deli cup with a lid and a few holes in the sides. I moisten the substrate about 1:1 by weight with water, and put 8-12 eggs per deli cup, then put the deli cups in a hovabator incubator (I...

DESPERATE FOR HELP! Can one of the vets on this forum please help!?!?!

What really jumps out at me is that your mister goes off every hour- that is way too much- I recommend 2-3 times a day at most, and given the amount of fruits/veggies you say he is eating, you can probably skip a day once in a while.

    Oustalet Enclosures?

I've been keeping Oustalet's in south florida for over a year now. I would generally say that their care is very similar to Veileds- feedings, watering, temp tolerances, etc. Large Oustie's do better in a larger cage. Wild caught seem to adjust to captivity more readily than Veileds, and they...

Jackson's Chameleon found on Kauai first time

I believe the late Sean Mckeown reported Jackson's from Kauai in the late 90's in his book Reptiles and Amphibians of Hawaii

Baby veiled going for a fruit fly and poop question

How often are you watering them? At that age I mist them at least twice a day. Good looking little guy, it wouldnt hurt to try some pinhead crickets into the diet mix.

    Happier in the Wild?

I have had a number of chameleons over the last 10 years, both wild-caught and captive bred, I have had captive born grow to be as aggressive as yours is, never acclimating to human presence, wild caught that became tame enough to hand feed and handle regularly, and every gradation in between...

    Chameleons being housed outside?

I've been keeping chameleons since 2003, and in that time I have lived in Las Vegas, Virginia, Oregon, and now south Florida. I almost always keep my chams outdoors, weather and temperatures permitting-for Veileds, year round in florida, 8+ months in Vegas, 6 months in Virginia, 4-5 months in...

    Oustalet's Chameleon Care?

I have a large adult male, WC, plus several sub adults and juveniles (WC and CB). Their care requirements are similar to Veileds. A buddy hatched my CB's in 10 1/2 months. Oustie's are know for long incubation times, 9 - 12 months. Again feeding is similar to veileds, a variety of insects. My...

    I'm a sucker for an orphan--rescuing a veiled cham--please help!

Is she eating? With the calcium deficiency I recommend feeding her calcium dusted crickets daily, and most importantly, hydrate her- spray her with warm distilled Or demineralized water twice a day. Good luck, let us know how she responds-

    wild feeder lizard?

Thanks Jann but the blog seems to support my feeding schedule- occasional vertebrate prey for large chams, including oustie's, is ok. His daily diet is crickets, plus super worms once a week- gut loaded and periodically dusted-

    wild feeder lizard?

Most wild caught lizards, including anoles, have parasites. I personally have fed both Veileds and Oustalet's anoles, but only occasionally, and only after treating the anole prophylactically with Panacur. Once you have a treated, parasite-free chameleon you probably want to take reasonable...
