Coating crickets in gut load. Anyone doing this?

I'm coating some of my crickets, not all, in the Blaudicadubia.com mega nutrient protein gut load. My panther seems to not mind. Is there any problem with this? The only think I can think is that the cricket might need to metabolize some of the food to make certain nutrients available...

What is it about these strange googly eyed creatures?

I live in a one bedroom studio and it is pretty funny how I'll look at the cage randomly and he's basking with one eye on me. Always watching me. I don't know how many times I've come up to the cage to feed him and he still gets all worried, hides behind the branch, then sees the food and slowly...

    Grow Lights

I'm really interested in doing this. I actually think a higher intensity lighting would be beneficial. It's recommended in some keeper's manuals I've read; Chameleon's in Captivity by C. Dorval to be specific. Anyway, I would love to get some flowering plants in free range setup up I'm trying...

    Saturday morning pics

Leon-4 month old ambilobe sired by Xirxis from Screameleons. I try to let him sit in the sun at least once a week. He's always a little freaked out at first but then seems to calm down. My favorite shot of him thus far: Tried to catch him in action, he's too quick though and this is after...

    Hello All

looks pretty bad ass to me man. I like it :D. Lot's of people in europe use glass terrariums and even put bedding material down. However, ventilation is something you don't want to mess with as everyone has said. Screen door on the front? That would be an easy fix. Seriously though, great job...

Chameleons can gauge vitamin D levels, regulate UV exposure accordingly

makes sense, probably a good reason to separate the basking light from the UVB light.

Chameleon out for a few hours in the sun. Pics

Hey, It was warm and the cage needed to be cleaned. Four month old Leon (ambilobe) out for a stroll. I think he enjoyed it. He was certainly a little confused but seemed to enjoy looking out the window. I gave him about a 1/2 hour alone and then fed him. He ate! Always cool to see that... One...

Chameleons can gauge vitamin D levels, regulate UV exposure accordingly

My understanding from human physiology is that D3 is needed to absorb calcium from the intestine. The more circulating D3, the more calcium is absorbed. So, if the theory about chams regulating D3 levels to regulate Ca absorption is true, they would "sun" less to form less D3 to allow the...

Chameleons can gauge vitamin D levels, regulate UV exposure accordingly

sorry for the double post but I wanted to mention that my cham doesn't chill by the lights much. He's usually on the second level of the terrarium in the shade of the umbrella plant. I supplement every other day with ca + vitd. Very light dustings. I'm wondering if this might be evidence to cut...
