Firstly, the macro lens really masks how tiny these chams are so here is one for scale. One of the girls (I think, so hard to tell) on my thumb. At 3 months now they are all about this size.
The next 2 are are Rex popping a yawn. He likes to mature them first in his throat before expelling...
I found that the health of my crickets increased significantly once I started using this. I still give them veggies but having the crystals as a primary source of liquids really made the difference. I think this is due to the ratio of water to mass being significantly higher that what they get...
Eish Shawn, that suck man. But nice one on the babies!
Afterbirth, placentas etc. can cause complications. Almost impossible to know for certain. She may even have had some further babies inside her so if she passes away you way want to try get them out as quickly as possible. Its a long shot...
Obviously these are not going to be for everyone but they work perfectly in my particular circumstances and that is why I wanted to share. Always amused as those who cry heresy when someone suggests something outside of their own particular routine.
My bug vacuum has made a 5min job a 1min...
Hi all, here are some tips and suggestions that I wanted to share which I've picked up or developed that I feel really help in keeping my guys in top condition but are not commonly known.
Increasing chameleon activity: Chameleons are cautious by nature, even when they feel safe and...
Try moving you bulb (or the perch) to one side and see if she opens the eye shaded from the light. I've noticed my chams do that sometimes while basking. If the sun is too bright they will shut the sun-ward eye while keeping watch with the other.
My 2 month old male has started to show some real colour. He gets a very subtle tinge of pink over his whole body but it just does'nt come out right on digital. Will have to take some proper celluloid at some point.
A good lens can be serviced. Although this is obviously not want you want from a newly purchased lens it does mean that you wont end up buying an expensive paper weight. Just make sure there are zero scratches on the glass and you should be ok, everything else can be fixed/cleaned. This can be...
For the first week I had them in a bonsai so I could keep a close eye but since then they have been in a large ficus. They really are hardy, this particular bloodline is no stranger to regular night temperatures around zero during winter.
I don't have a single light or cage as they live...
None that I've heard of and I've had a good look. You can try Infruitec in stellenbosch, they breed millions of these genetically modified sterile fruitflies each week so usually don't mind giving you a bag of a couple thousand pupae if you are really stuck. A fascinating facility if you have...
Thanks guys. Little photo trick I worked out for the two sleeping on top of each other. I setup the tripod and macro a couple inches away and pulled focus. I then turned off the light so the room was pitch black and set a 15sec exposure. I clicked the shutter and then used my Blackberry screen...
Here is a sad moment I happened to catch. It shows a 5 day old dwarf that passed away in my hand. The little guys are really fragile in the first months so its almost impossible to tell why they suddenly just crash.
I put him on my hand to warm up after finding him in a bad way. The pain was...
Buy a dropper from a drug store and start training your chams to drink from it. If you can get this right you should never have an issue with hydration/supplements/medication.
Put the dropper within half a foot of the cham and wait for it to see it (drip a couple drops) before slowly moving...
I give it to all my chams in tiny amounts once every 1 1/5 months or in larger doses if I need an individual to poop.
It contains a good alternate source of retinol (vitamin A) as well as other fishy goodness.
Edit: I do notice that it gives their skin a particularly healthy sheen for a week...
Nicely summerised.
Remember there is nothing better than pure sunlight to avoid MDM. Even if its for 10minutes get the little guys out there as often as possible,
