Fresh newborn veiled chameleons :D
So far it seems I have 2 lady's and 2 boys. The first guy started to puff up and bite as soon as I looked at him :P
(look at the spur, male)
It wasn't a guess. Looking for it on the internet gives you plenty of results, senegalensis looks a lot alike but shows different colors. As my internet connection (mobile) is blurring pictures I can't give a detailed explanation about the difference but I might be able to do so later.
It's a Chamaeleo gracilis and I think it's a male. If he has spurs it's a male for sure. Keep him well hydrated and give him a various diet of crickets, hoppers, silk worms, phoenix worms etc. There's plenty of good feeders available.
Usually you can see spurs on the babies quite early and then 99,9% of the time it's a male. Occasionally females can show spurs when younger but they can lose them later on when they grow.
He's still growing and becoming a real man now, his second set of horns is growing and he's shedding every month. He will get a girlfriend in a few months!
I don't know how big your cage is but it's looks quite small to me. I would put some more plants in it as well, also because humidity should be quite high.
About the 5.0:
I've had some bad experiences with that lamp along with a lot of other poeple I know, mine got MBD slightly and burn at...
Whahaha I've had exactly the same situation a few years ago. I would go on vacation for 2 weeks and my parents to look after him. When I was home nothing was to be seen. In the car (5 minute drive) he got like 1 slightly white spot at his side showing he was about to 'explode' soon. We put his...
I have a funny movie fact as well. Here in Holland we have a movie about the second world war so that's between 1940-1945 in which there's a man who keeps reptiles. There is a shot in which you see him have a Nosy Be panther chameleon but I believe these chameleons were imported in the 70's or...
oooh my, that's horrible! Lucky the animals didn't have any problems due to the long travel. Ofcourse in another country it's always hard to get help fast.
I looked at the pictures and i think the first 3 are males and the other 2 are females, so I think you're right. It's ahrd to see for me...
Very nice Jack! Toobad we didn't have a chance to introduce at Hamm. While you were talking with Tom I was sitting at the table next to him. Maybe next time ;)
This is the first time I see a veiled having the same issue as mine and then I'm pointing at his chin.
I got my veiled from a friend because someone who bought it from him wasn't taking care of him well. He had a big bump on his chin just like yours has, but I can't figure out how exactly...
As you can see they just hatched and it's extremely difficult to already tell the sexes for sure. They are realy cute though, I would think they were parson's babies as well looking at the pattern and the build and everything. They are gorgeous!
hehehe, no but the did try to grab him :P
Ah well, I know now how I can get him to mate a female. I just pull out the quad so he gets in the mood and then I switch the quad to a female :p:p
Looks like chamaeleo africanus or something yes, some chamaeleo species that's for sure. Just plain BS that it's poisonous. Nothing special if you ask me.
He's not trying to be dominant, he's acting the same as when he wants to mate to a female. I know what dominant behaviour looks like. My quadricornis is not stressed by it at all, he only got scared when my veiled was on top of him, trying to rape him...
But as Benny just said it is possible...
