Ok, I will lower the basking temp, but the supplementation thing has me confused. I heard that over supplementation of Jacksons is a problem. i looked on the forum and found most people recommended calcium once a week and no d3 at all. Nothing did I find mention a Multi vitamin. So that...
Chameleon Info:
Your Chameleon - Male jacksons, he is approximately 6 months old. I have had him for about a month
Handling - never
Feeding - crickets about 5 or 6, 3/4 inch everyday
Supplements - ExoTerra Calcium once a week no D3 at all
Watering - I have a mist king that runs for three...
Ok, I get it. I can be done, but not without much heartache. I will stick with just one. Thanks to all for the advice and tolerating my devils advocacy.
I have searched everywhere, but I know I saw a thread that had a study done of the stomach contents of a particular species of chameleons in the wild. They found that Flys bees and ants made up most of the diet. I am pretty sure that these won't hurt you cham....I wish I could find that...
Oh don't get me wrong, I want to care for two and having little jackson's seems cool too. But that is not the point of wanting a female. I am not going to become a breeder. I just like the idea of a pair of these running around in my cage.
Again, quoting from this thread, "The minimum enclosure for 1-2 Jacksons measures 24"L x 24"H x 18"W."
Like I said there are lots of answers out there. my cage is 24x24x48 inches much bigger than the recommendation above
Well maybe not eggs as Jacksons are ovoviviparous so they produce live young. but I really just want to keep 2 and have no room for more. So I am asking before acting;)
I have a Male Jacksons and he is awesome, I would like to get a female, but not to breed, just because I think keeping 2 would be cool. Anyway I found this thread https://www.chameleonforums.com/jacksons-care-56085/ and I found this quote.
"Jackson's Chameleons are one of the few chameleons...
I will try to get pictures when I get home. I used flexible hose that I had lying around from my CPAP machine. you can get it here pretty cheap. I had to cut the piece out that is used for controlling the mist to fit the pipe then I sealed it with silicone. It worked very well.
I have this one I have modified it to use a pipe that goes directly into the cage. Foggers are not a requirement, but My Jackson's loves it. And it keeps my cage at a perfect 70% humidity. I still have a mist king for watering, but when the fogger is running Greggory is in Heaven!
They are safe, but supposedly they do not have strong enough branches to support a chameleon. I have one and my Male Jackson's loves it! I do have to keep it trimmed to fit my cage.
So I was feeding my Jackson's and I have a feeding cup. I was adding crickets to the feeding cup and one jumped our onto my arm. I tried to grab it but it jumped. Apparently Greggory the Chameleon saw the what was happening and as the cricket leaped off my arm, Greggory shot and nailed it in...
Thanks Sontiger. I am more impressed by the guys who keep the snakes and say no I have never been hurt by one of my snakes. The truth of the matter is that the snake was expensive at the time a big Python like that was going for well over $1000.00. It was at the height of the reptile boom in...
This is a long story so I apologize in advance. I was in college and had quite a few reptiles, even a Senegal Chameleon. I had built a custom cage for all of my animals I think I had around 25. I was enamored with snakes. I am not sure why, I just thought the were fascinating. Anyway I...
I used to keep snakes that could have killed me. I never really thought much about it untill my 14 foot reticulated Python nearly broke my arm. I then realized that having something that could take my life just wasn't cool
So I was watching this show the other night and they had a guy who got killed by his pet water monitor lizards. He had 4 of them and they roamed the house freely. He got bit by one of them, got an infection and died. then his Pet lizards ate him. So this got me wondering, Who do you think on...
