So, just trying to understand this method more,
So if my chams cant use the plants they have for the two weeks...ill have to buy fake ones that they can climb on anyway during this time, if theyre real they'll spawn gnats.
Then to treat the real plants, mix misquito dunks(or any pesticide)...
Ive been battling these a lot also and have considered getting fake plants. Ive come to the conclusion that there is no getting rid of them completely until the plats are gone. Glue boards etc help keep the numbers down, but thats it.
I would be but mold wiped out my last couple colonies. You could just do what i did and order 100 crickets/super worms at mulberries and they're handing out butterworms with them
My female Amilobe, who normally waits at the cage door for me every morning for food, would not touch anything this morning. Rather than run to my hand she kept climbing the screen to the top, passing over crickets on the way. That isn't like her at all. I did notice a small amount of stool...
I fed mine to my roaches. They eventually ate it but werent as interested. You can also mix it with silkworm chow and a silkworm gutload, but only use prior to feeding off.
As a temporary solution, if humidity drops real low you can spray a spray bottle in the air around the room for about 5-10 minutes. It kicks the humidity up well for a bit. Of course you dont want to do this all the time so I'd go to cragislist or something and hook up another humidifier or two.
They'll need a protein source of some kind. It will take a while to build your colony up so you may want to put a dish of dogfood in there at least and leave them alone for a while. If they do not get enough protein, they start eating each others body parts :P
Did you try the soap method out? Ive been trying and they seem to just be multiplying anyway. I was wondering if with a combination of rocks on top of the soil, putting some sand with them to cover the top soil. Assuming they don't like beach sand since they feed off the decay in the soil...
The Styrofoam inside on the sides reinforces the inside. Its the same way chameleoncompany does theirs. Kammers is almost the same, they used a deli cup with a screen top for the cham though. Either way worked fine.
Get a box (approx 10-12 inches wide and tall) Fill it with newspaper. Put Styrofoam inside around the edges. Put the lizard in a paper bag semi-stuffed with shredded newspaper and staple it shut. Depending on the route that its traveling, you may need heat packs or cold to ensure survival...
