Cool! I think the horn was red like the others. I didn't notice it when I got them (I got a cup of babies) so it really too me by surprise finding it today! Thanks for all the great info.
I ended up getting rid of it almost right away because I was nervous Hahaha as long as I know it isn't...
I opened up my hornworm cup to put some lunch in for Olivander, and I found that one hornworm was black. I assumed it was dead, but it is very much alive. I have never seen one like this! Kinda strange..... Is it safe to feed the others to my cham?
Thanks everyone! Lots of good info. The room I keep my gracilior in requires AC to keep it at an appropriate temp, but it doesn't change much from day to night... stays pretty regular in the low 70s. It drops about 3 degrees at night with the lights off. I'll have to play around with it and...
Everything I read says nighttime Temps can be as low as a certain degree. This may be a stupid question, but does it HAVE to get lower at night or is it OK if the temps stay the same moderate temperature for the species all throughout the day/night?
You can see the targeting, the line up with his tongue just poking out, and the shot! I kind of love that his whole body is blurred in the last picture, showing it is a full body effort to fire that trebuchet tongue and whack the prey!
I can definitely vouch for the awesomeness and ease of graciliors! First let me say that I also love Graceful chameleons...that was the first kind I had and he was quite friendly. I would recommend that species to anyone that is good with keeping warmer temps. Now my eyes have been opened to...
I got a shower curtain for like $3 at the dollar store and it works well, especially with my changing moods! First I had it on the floor, then I was able to wrap it around the smaller cage, and just recently I cut it up and staple it into the side panels of me newer, bigger wooden cage. Works...
Here we go! I've been waiting to post on this thread. I actually had my own little thing going depicting my progress (a thread called something like "Olivander's big boy cage") and that had more details about it. Here is a pic, though!
Oh that's a good idea! I honestly have no idea what he used. Hahaha I told him it needs to be pet safe and able to handle being wet the majority of the time. I believe there was outdoor sealant and butcher's block seal (mineral oil?) involved but I don't know what order, brand, or amount. I...
FINALLY!!!! Olivander is still sort of small - just shy of 5 months old, weighing in at 21 grams today. I feel like I could have waited another month or two to put him in the big new cage, but his small one was having issues. It was old and partitioned off for his younger self. I started having...
Aaaaaand one from this morning's battle with the silkworm that found something to hold on to halfway down Oli's throat. It was all out tug of war when that worm latched onto the cup string, and he was not happy Haha. Got it in the end, though!
hahahahaha you are cracking me up! I can definitely see that being a difficult surname to fit with. I think his full name sounds very poetic and heroic!
I did! I love it! He is getting so big... I can't wait to put him in his big cage. It is 2x2 1/2 feet long/wide, 4 feet high, so I'll probably give it a little bit longer. He is growing fast, though! :)
Because I can't help myself! He is 4.5 months old and weighed in at 17 grams today, officially doubling the 8.5 g weight when I got him on May 4. He now sometimes eats out of my hand and doesn't mind me handling him sometimes (certain days he is not keen on coming out so I leave him be). Not a...
