I have a female veiled chameleon.. I was told that they are normally really nasty but mine is a sweetheart and always walks on my hand as soon as I put it in the cage. When she's on my hand and I rub gently in between her eyes she falls asleep. Anyone else's Chams do that?!
I'm curious why people stil resort to a wild caught "pet" when there are MANY breeders available. If you can't afford a CB proce is it really fair to the animal he's taken out of a beautiful wilderness to live in a terrarium? :(
I recently heard a horror story of a guy who was told by a pet shop that he could keep his male/female veileds together. The male attacked her and ended up breaking her legs:( if I'm not sure I always ask someone on here! There's so many experienced people on here to help noobs like me out lol...
Just make sure as she matures you give her an egg laying bin. Even if she does not breed some females will still lay clutches of eggs about 4 times a year. Once she's mature you can feed her a little less and keep the temps a tad lower and she may stop laying.
I use a 5.0 UVB light and a 50w for basking in my 24x24x48. 100w is really high for a cham. What are you temps at the basking spot? Also make sure the UVB light is 8" from the cham and the basking bulb is 12" from cham to avoid thermal burns.
I think 24x24x48 is the minimum. Many people with the screen cages will put plastic on the back/sides and just leave the front and top open for airflow! The stale air that comes with the glass terrariums can give Chams respiratory issues. Hope this helps:)
And just because someone is doing...
