Yes he is huge. I have only had him a few weeks. I got him from kelly here on the forum. She told me he was big and a sweet heart. He does not hiss or gape but he also does not willingly climb on my hand yet either. Takes a little coaxing.
I have had my baby jackson since 1/1/14. He was about. 6 weeks old. He took right to cup feeding. Now every morning he is sitting there waiting. I just moved him from the 10 gallon to his new cage and I put crix in bowl of new cage and placed him on top. The next day he way there waiting...
You could give him water this way sometimes. You could also incorporate showers to keep him hydrated.
However, I would also try to encorage him to drink in his cage fromt he mistings. You will need him to drink in a more traditional way if you go on vaction or have someone else checking in...
I just got a panther last week (adult). Got him Friday and he as been eating well...etc By Monday night he still had not pooped. (been at least 4 days) I gave him a warm shower and he did a very large poop. I suggest a warm shower.
Any reason why this could not be used as a dry gut load?

I would get rid of the wood chips altogether you don't need any substrate. Are you sure they didn't come from the wood chips or can you see where they are coming from outside the cage?
