Building a new cage 49.75" x 24.25" x 24.25". I was originally going to go with a mesh 48" x 36" x 24" cage but decided a partially enclosed cage would be better for the cold winter months and keeping the water contained. I actually using 2' x 4' hardboard instead of plywood, since I couldn't...
After reading this I think you are straight out crazy for doing this, no offense. Any sane person would have just bought some par30 or 38 light bulbs seeing as they will still produce enough light for plants and keep your energy bill low. I really shouldn't talk since I built a 37 LED fixture...
Glad to hear that you can find it locally. Vitamin D (d3) is a supplement that helps bones grow and if too much is given it can cause bone defects, that's why I limit the amount to once a month since my chameleon gets enough UVB. The rest is up to you and what you see is best. I've heard...
Try cup feeding, worked amazing for me right away. I had to show my chameleon there were crickets in the cup first, but he adapted to it right away. Plus its a good way to keep track of how much they eat :D
Forgot to mention most stores do not carry calcium w/o d3, you may have to order online or ask the store to order it for you. Here is a link: http://www.amazon.com/Rep-Cal-Calcium-Phosphorus-Vitamin-Bottle/dp/B000N5PVZG
Calcium w/ D3 should be used sparingly, most people say once a month or every other month. Calcium w/o D3 can be used regularly and a multi-vitamin should be used once a week give or take. It really depends on the person and overall situation how much to give. Chameleons get D3 from the 5.0...
My umbrella tree does amazing under 6500 sylvania blubs from my local grocery store. It outgrew my 18x18x36 cage in 3 months after I trimmed it back. If you aren't using the bulb for heat then go with led grow bulbs to save electricity.
I'm also in between crickets and Dubia roaches, I normally get 100 crickets every 2 weeks since I have 1 male, 5 month old, panther chameleon. Now he doesn't eat all 100 in 2 weeks, it just gives room for die off. My crickets dont smell either, probably from my custom cricket food, and I don't...
Thanks guys :D Lenard is doing really well in his new cage and I only loose him every once in a while :p I picked Lenard up today and he actually turned a very light blue I was shocked, I can't wait to see what color he turns out to be.
At 3 months old Lenard starts shedding and gets a cage full of foliage :D
Luckily it only took 2 days to shed, the little guy seemed so irritated.
After 99% of his shedding was done
YAY!!! for a new cage
Lenard enjoying his new cage
Lenard says "If I can't see...
1) Your basement should be fine if you can live in it
2) its best to just get a 2'x2'x4' cage/ supplies from lllreptile.com
3) I haven't noticed a smell and clean it as often as you can IMO. Also crickets are smelly but if you feed them properly and keep them clean they wont smell too...
Well Lenard has shed completely and I moved and finished his cage. I added a 2ft umbrella plant with some dowels and fake vines. Lenard went from stressed out to ass happy as I have ever seen him. He is bright blue/green with dark spots since I moved him. Hopefully he will drink more now...
Well the store didn't have any 5.0 bulbs in the size i needed, that weren't broken. Yes I'm that guy that shakes the bulbs lightly to see if I hear a rattle :D I ended up with a CLF 5.0 26w, hopefully since its a 08/2011 bulb exo-terra has all the wavelengths correct so there is no burning. At...
