Hand feeding is also a great way to get your new chameleon use to you and is the best way to keep track of how much they are eating. A methiod I use is a combination of cup and hand feeding. I use a small glass dish (used for measuring out ingridents when baking) and put a few crickets in it...
my veiled gets stuck on worms too. I let him go a few days with no food and then let him eat crickets untill he seems to lose interest, I then let him have an equal amount of worms. so if he eats 3 crickets he gets 3 worms, if he eats no crickets he gets no worms.
They do get much brighter with age but the difference between male and female is also very big. With the males being more colorful and the females being more subdued. If you have a male he should be showing more colors around 6 months, peaking at closer to a year when the reach sexual maturity.
Super worms!!!! Be carfull though mine loves them so much that if I let him, that's all he would eat. You can keep them in an open Tupperware container. Make substrate out of ground grain, cereal, nuts things like that. Make it a few inches deep. Keep the substrate a few inches from the top of...
The cage looks much better, nice job! Your little guy might be getting stressed, try giving him some time (days or a week) with no changes and little to no handling. The way he is laying side ways means he's trying to hide (mine does it when be see a cat) or just getting more sun
Sorry about the bad temp info (kinda pulled that one out my *** lol). I knew it was low but not sure how low. One more thing to the OP, first welcome to the forum your little guy is very cute:) (was in a rush with the first post sorry for being rude), you mentioned a water fall too which is...
Feel free to do a search on the use of red lights. They should not be used and should not be used at night for sure. You only need a heat source at night if your temps drop below 68f. Once again do what you want but you need to make sure there is no place in the cage where your temps can get hot...
Just a few things I noticed. Red lights ( from what I hear don't know the science behind it) are bad for thier eyes. Most people use regular household bulbs (incondesent) for extra heat. Or you can use a ceramic heat emitter if you don't want more light. Second, the lights should not be in the...
I have always had a screen bottom. I agree you can't put much weight on the bottom. If you put a wooden frame work under the screen so it is made into four smaller section and put two layers of screen I Think you could put a lot of weight on it. Mines only one layer of screen divided into two...
Do you live in the Halifax area? I just moved from Hal to N.B. There were some people in Halifax breading crickets that would deliver if the order was big enough
I had a few different reptiles as a kid with little succuss (the internet has made things soooo much easier lol) got back into them when I moved out of my parents house. I started out with a leapord gecko, the next year I got 2 flying geckos the year after that a redtail boa. Next I wanted some...
I agree with haze, I need to spray my guy for a minute or more before he starts to drink. Get one of those pump up spray bottles and put the chameleon some place with good drainage. Fill the spray bottle with hot water ( should be warm when it comes out as a mist). And spray until you see the...
The difference between a waterfall or a water dish and the the bucket for my mist king is the bucket is kept outside the cage with a lid on it and is filled with clean water every other day. The water is not recirculated but sprayed into the cage and collected in a separate bucket that is also...
I use stright-up tap water. I would think you would want minerals for the chameleons health but it will build up in the lines and mister head. From what I heard this can be fixed by running some diluted vinegar through the system (and then flushing with clean water of course). But I've run mine...
