Thank you both for the suggestions. I am hoping that as he gets bigger he will stop climbing on the cage. It is funny you mention adding more vines and sticks because I had decided to do that about 10 minutes ago. I also just got several new plants to put up. Mostly spanish moss and air...
Is there any way to set up my cage to prevent my cham from climbing on the screen? I haven't been able to think of anything to stop this and at first I didn't care but he tends to climb right up to his basking light where it is definitely too hot to be safe. I'm switching to a lower wattage...
I'm making my first attempt at breeding crickets. I've done some research but still somewhat confused. I purchased a mix of different sized crickets at the store and separated 10-15 of the bigger ones into a different container, more females than males, and put in a tray of dirt for them to...
Glad you guys liked the photos. As soon as I realized he wasn't in any danger I thought it was hilarious. I keep showing friends the first photo and asking them to spot the chameleon and of course they only look in the cage thinking he is blended in with the leaves.
Speaking of right under m nose, I actually lifted those window blinds to see if he was on the window ledge. He must have been about an inch from my face when I did it and I didn't see him.
Soooo I've got my young veiled, Doc, set up in my home office. I usually leave his door open if I'm in the room and if I'm only going to be gone for a minute or 2. Until recently Doc has shown no interest in ever leaving his basking spot so I've been comfortable doing this. Well I won't be...
It might be hard to tell from the picture but in only a week it seems that Doc has grown significantly. I haven't weighed him but it looks like he is a bit bigger and a week ago I wasn't even positive he was male but now his spurs have grown a bit and are easy to see.
He is also behaving...
Very cool. I work from home and have my cage set up in my office too. I hope it has the same effect and he isn't scared of me. He doesn't seem too threatened by me but he certainly isn't coming to me or letting me hold him yet.
Ryu has grown a lot! I've only had mine for a week and he is noticeably bigger. I heard they grow fast but I didn't know it was that fast.
Does Ryu let you hold him without much trouble?
Wow thank you so much! I was just about to checkout and I didn't know about the sale. You saved me a few bucks and I'll probably be able to order more for his cage too!:D
Xraygirl and MelissaB, I was just looking at those threads before posting this. They are nice but don't exactly work for me because of the stand I have it on currently. In the future I'll be upgrading my set up but right now I've spent enough money getting everything else that I don't want to...
So I've only had my cham for a few days but I need to make some changes to his cage. I was lining the bottom of the cage with paper towels/newspaper with a plastic storage bin to catch some of the water. But the newspaper is giving the crickets a place to hide (and die) and it just gets soaked...
Thank you for the info. In my excitement at getting a cham I actually did almost nothing but research for a few weeks (this was prolonged because I was supposed to get one 2 weeks earlier than I did) so I have seen a lot of this before, but thank you all the same, it is helpful to refer back...
This is Doc, my first ever chameleon. I've already made a couple posts on here asking questions but I just wanted to share a couple shots I got of him. I just got him home 2 days ago but things seem to be going well so far. When I first walked up to him this morning he quickly changed colors...
Actually no more worries here. As soon as I took the crickets out of the cup and let them free roam a couple of them actually crawled up the screen right in front of him. As soon as he saw them (and ate them) he went looking for more. I even tried hand feeding him, completely expecting him...
Just got my first chameleon home yesterday. Doc is a male veiled about 4 inches long. I've been doing my research for weeks in preparation of getting him but since I'm lacking any real chameleon ownership experience I could use a few tips.
For starters how should I go about introducing...
Now that I look at it that is an older pic of the cage. I've made adjustments to the bottom especially witht he plant/dish. But as far as the light is concerned would you say it needs another lamp?
