Advise needed on using a fan in enclosure

I've literally drilled probably 50 aquariums exactly this way without a problem. You just can't put any pressure on the glass more than the weight of the drill. It's incredibly easy.

Drainage Systems for Cages - get creative!

I was going to ask how dirty the drainage water is as far as large floating particles? Reason I ask, is that I have a master plan of using a 5g bucket with a float switch and a pump plumbed to the house drain. When the bucket gets full and trips the float switch it will turn the pump on and...

I'd imagine it will work just fine. T8 is t8.

    DIY vines

That looks great and I'd imagine it would be plenty strong enough, if you wanted stiffer things like branches you could use something that would dry stiffer like fiberglass resin or epoxy of some kind. Pond epoxy comes to mind. Thanks for posting, def adding that video to my favorites list.

Did you decide on a name? I was going to suggest Spock. Live long and prosper

Misting Systems and Tap Water (can it be done)?

Oh wait, I got you confused with the OP. My reply was towards the OPs question.

    DIY MISTING SYSTEM

AC pumps don't care about head pressure. Excess pressure just gets expelled out of the inlet. I operate a pump 24/7 that's totally closed off except when I want to do water changes. It's about 20 years old. Newer DC pumps are a different story. Increasing head pressure on those will fry the...

Misting Systems and Tap Water (can it be done)?

Well if you mist with it, I'm sure home boy/girl will drink it, so I wouldn't do it. Don't you have an RO for that tank? Just use that.

Advise needed on using a fan in enclosure

Alrighty, You have two options to lower it, both are going to be not fun. 1: check to see if the sides of the tank are plate glass or tempered. If plate, continue with below plan. If tempered, abort. You can check a couple ways. First feel the edges of the glass if you can find them...

    DIY MISTING SYSTEM

How big is the reservoir that you are going to be using to feed the system? My advice is to get a AC pump, and put a gate valve on it. Most AC pumps won't have any issues with back pressure when it comes to dialing back the flow. I plan on using one of these: Fluval Sea SP2 Sump Pump for...

Misting Systems and Tap Water (can it be done)?

I would go have your water tested to see what's in it before you entertain this idea. You may get the results and not want to drink it yourself...

Advise needed on using a fan in enclosure

Before I get drastic here, what's the RH in the room where the enclosure is? That will make a drastic difference on how we tackle this. I would bet that the RH of the room is sky high, have you checked?

New guy here coming up with a plan.

I'm going to re-read all these replies a couple of times and redo my plan. I'm also in the process of drawing some stuff on paper before I go into sketchup with it. I'll post my plan v2, and hopefully have some visuals for everyone to help me chew on this a little more.

New guy here coming up with a plan.

Anyway, so let me see if I can condense the advice in this thread: 1: dial down the complexity. So I will ditch the storm mode and just go with a full spectrum LED fixture like one of the ones I have on my tank in the pics above (maybe two depending on how big this enclosure gets). I...

New guy here coming up with a plan.

I can post a few pics of the reef, it is only a 75g, mostly softies LPS and a few less demanding SPS like green slimers, pocillopora, stylo and the like in the higher flow areas. Lower flow areas I have A toadstool, a sinularia, a Devils hand, a Favia brain, a scan and some rock flower nems...

New guy here coming up with a plan.

Thank you so much for taking the time to read my novel and respond. While I do understand that this can be done much cheaper and easier than I have outlined, but I really need a way of both controlling and monitoring the system remotely. So the apex is actually a necessity, especially with the...

New guy here coming up with a plan.

Part 2 of 2 AUTOMATION/REDUNDANCY My general rule on making anything complex and automated is to have at least three fail safes with one being a last resort property damage prevention method. I want to be able to turn systems on and off when I am gone, and be able to be notified of when a...

New guy here coming up with a plan.

Part 1 of 2 So, I bought my little girl who's 5 almost 6 a leopard gecko. Obviously I've been doing all the work and letting her enjoy and learn, and doing all this I think I've been bitten by the herp bug. My local pet store is fantastic, I am very lucky. The owner is a conscientious pet...
