All the reptile shops that I have spoken to keep their chameleons in wooden vivarium and when I ask them they say mesh is the better choice but wood works as well. I'm under the impression that there's not enough airflow with wood though right?

That wooden viv is a recipe for disaster, not enough ventilation and your chameleon will sooner or later contract a respiratory infection. Your "expert" clearly has no idea about the importance of ventilation to chameleons.
I live in the UK, not sure where your based lol. The jacksons temp requirements are practically perfect, cause in winter it bes quite cold indoors at night, even during the day. As well as humidity generally being higher as well.
