200 crickets dominated by ANTS!!!!

I just bought 200 crickets sunday tossed in a few egg cartons some orange stuff some calcium gel stuff and some veggies in a 5 gallon bucket. I got off work today around 8:00 pm thought ziggy would want a nice snack before bed. I walked into the back yard and to my bucket and noticed there were a stinking zillion ants all over the crickets all over the food all over my bucket all over the stinking place. Its pretty frustrating errrggggggg. I just had to vent thanks for reading

I feel for you...trust me! Keeping crickets is such a PITA. I had a 1,000 delivered the other day and the Fedex guy just left them on my porch in the rain so when I brought the box in it was soaked..so of course stupid me..I bring them in the house and decide to let the box dry out a little before I emptied them into the bin and the next thing I know..they got out and now I have at least a hundred or more of the little bastards running around the house..under my stove and refridge. Crickets are chirping everywhere...It's terrible!

It's only good to feed your chameleon in the morning. Late time bed snacks is not a good idea.

wow thats freaking horrible. i guess you could get and bearded dragon (full grown of course) and those crickets will be gone in no time.

It's only good to feed your chameleon in the morning. Late time bed snacks is not a good idea.

I have late time bed snacks running all over the house..at least my cat seems to like them

Basically horned toads, but that name is so generic it can mean so many things.

Ok.. I just checked it out and found out a Phrynosoma was a horned toad..now I guess I know for future reference

Sometimes I put the base of my cricket cage in water (would work with a bucket, too, if you had a big enough tub) - ants can't swim, and as long as they can't reach the edges of the container by any other means, that stymies them.
