Anyone using the reptisun 48" UVB bulb on top of 2 or more cages? What should I be looking for in a fixture? Are the fixtures from a homedepot or lowes good?

If its a dual tube light fixture what bulb would be used for the 2nd tube?

Using this larger bulb would save alot of money since the 48" tube is the same price as a 18" bulb.

Yes buy them form HD or Lowes they are way cheaper. For the second you can get a regular flouescent bulb or one of the plant bulbs to help grow plants. Just make sure they are the T8 size fixtures becasue thats the regular reptisun size, I know you can get them in T12 but T8 is what almost everyone you will see will be.

I know you can buy fixtures with room for just one bulb if that is what you are looking for. I bought one for my bearded dragon that was in a 75G tank-I just got it from Home Depot. A lot of people use plant bulbs to help the plants that need a lot of light. Also, in case the fixture you get has a plastic cover over the bulbs, make sure you remove it or else it will filter out the UVB and your cham won't get any!

Just match the Fixture/Ballast with the Bulb you will be using. Lowes and HD sell both T12 and T8 fixtures.

Wal Mart has some great 48" fixtures for $10-holds two bulbs and the sides hang down enough to set the fixture on top of the cage (look for that-you don't want the fixture being supported by bulbs touching the cage). I put a regular flourescent 40W in one side and the UVB in the other-fits over 4 16X16X30 or 3 18X18X36 or 2 24X24X48.

I do the same thing, except mine are all on a frame attached to the shelves the chameleons are on and my second bulb is a plant light. The fixtures with the side hanging down also direct a lot more light into the cages. My cham room is very bright. that makes for happy chameleons.:)

Thanx for the info everyone.

I will be using this over 2 18x18x36 cages for the time being, and expanding to a 3rd cage in the future sometime. I will have to fabricate something to hold it up off the cages until I get the 3rd cage.

I use a "used" ReptiSun in the second fixture. I get some more use out of the light that way plus the remaining UV generation for what its worth.
