6 new additions!

Hello all-

I got these 6 little guys off Craigslist. The previous owners had a gravid female that dropped the clutch (they didn't know she was gravid). There was a clutch of 18 babies that lived (they said there was more, but they either didn't make it out of the membrane sack, or they were not all the way developed).

These little guys have different personalities, and they're so fun to watch. They're a little over 2 months old and it will be fun to watch them grow!

One of them has a deformed upper lip, but it does not stop him/her from eating. Another had its tail caught in the cage, so it has a little bend in it.

I will get a group picture of them when I get home later today!

Wow very Cute, Im waiting currently for a breeders clutch to hatch should be in the next few weeks and then 6-7 weeks later he will be with me ! :D

Congrats! They are all totally adorable.

Just be sure to keep those little cuties well-hydrated, since they can be stubbornly resistant to drinking until sprayed directly for a few minutes.

I would get some calcium-rich Phoenixworms and silkworms to help ensure they get the calcium they need to grow--especially since one has a lip deformity which suggests that they may be deficient in calcium already.

Please be aware that the little ones need even lower basking temps than the older ones do--below 80.

Here is a great Jackson's caresheet https://www.chameleonforums.com/care/caresheets/jacksons/

Chillwill007, you should have feeders with him all the time at his young age.
Just make sure that the feeders also have food, so they don't chew on your baby cham.
I would also block his view of the poster with the kid, in case he thinks it is real eyes staring at him all the time
Oh and in case you weren't already aware, Jackson's are THE BEST chams :D

Thanks. I've kept Jacksons before, and other montane species so this is just a refresher :p

I am keeping it under 77 at all times? Usually around the 72-74 range though.

Sounds good, Chase.
I wanted to be sure chillwill007 knew what to do, too.

I've raised over 50 of them over the past year in Exo-Terra terraria--so I'm surprised to see you getting rid of one.

I used bamboo skewers stuck into the foam backgrounds to allow them to walk all over the terraria.

I've actually kept most of them because I really do love these adorable, gentle mini dinosaurs.

If only the warm weather lasted all winter here.....

Ok cool thanks I gave him like 6 baby dubia roaches in a dish today but I didnt see him eat any and haven't really seen him drink all tho I spray it down about 4 rimes a day and spray him. Although he seems to get mad when I do that and hides.

And sorry to the original poster im gonna start my own thread with my set up and stuff

Actually thanks for reminding me, because I actually have been using the Exo-Terra so it's no longer for sale.

When I got them from the other owners, they wanted pictures of my set up and they even tried to tell me it was bad at first. Luckily for me, I can keep them outside most of the winter (if it's not super cold), but I unfortunately sold my screen enclosures and will probably have to come up with something else to put them in.

Thanks for the suggestion on the Phoenix Worms, though. I had never used them and never had anyone tell me they really liked them.

Chase

EDIT: Maybe when they get a little older we can trade so we can have unrelated bloodlines :)

You're very welcome.
I found the Exo Terras to be ideal--good airflow, retained humidity nicely and the foam background was great for sticking skewers in as horizontal basking branches.

I do want to advise you (and others) of a hidden danger which can land curious little Jackson's in serious trouble, if it goes undetected--easier to notice when there are only 6, though.

There are cutouts for tubing, etc. on the back of the decorative foam background and these open at the very bottom and my curious little chameleons seem to have a real knack for squeezing underneath there and getting stuck behind the foam.

If not found soon enough, the delicate babies can perish.
Thankfully, I count babies like an OCD cham caretaker.

I have learned from experience to block off the openings.

Maybe my baby Jackson's are more curious about their world than most chams but it is a warning worth sharing
(The "spike" is actually the end of a bamboo skewer, it is not something that any chameleon could come in contact with---normally!)

Notice how she couldn't leave there fast enough :D

My cham babies all loved Phoenixworms and even my older Jackson's really like them.
You can buy them here in bulk http://www.phoenixworm.com/servlet/the-Phoenix-Worm-Sizes--Place-Order-Here/Categories they should be able to eat the medium size ones which are still very small compared to other feeders.
I like them for the high calcium /low phosphorus ratio.

Screen cages are easy enough to make at home with materials from Home depot or Lowe's .
I would be living in the streets if I'd had to buy all the screen cages.

Plus, I had lucked out and a very nice former chamkeeper and forum member Stanley Tines gave me all of his cages.

A future trade might be possible....

I'm placing an order on Phoenix Worms today. I bought some baby superworms today, and they tore them up! I will not feed them supers often, I was just curious if they would actually eat them.

They're loving this cool weather here too, it's cool enough in the evening and mornings where they can catch some natural rays before it gets too hot.

Chase

I gave mine supers too, in moderation.
They loved them but not any more than they loved Phoenixworms.
Most people probably don't realize just how much baby chams can eat.
Silkworms should be good for your group, too.

Yea they eat a ton. Well these babies don't like to eat in front of me, but I know they eat, because the food is all gone. But they do eat if they don't think I'm there!

Chase

That's kind of funny.
They're probably just skittish because they're in a new environment.
Mine literally would eat from my fingers because of their voracious appetites.

Hey Chase it is nice to see you back on the dark side.:D:D Your jacksons a just sweet. So are all the others. I love baby jacksons, but will soon be out of room.:D:D
