The ONLY reason why I am responding is because I was tagged in it.
I need to know the exact fixture you are using @lthrbecks. I need to know how many bulbs it holds... if it is a multi bulb does each bulb have a reflector or does it share one?

If you are running a single bulb T5HO fixture then the basking branch below it should be 9 measured inches away with a 6% bulb.

You will NEVER run a 12% in a single bulb t5HO fixture without doing a 12 inch distance to basking. Which is why we have told you repeatedly not to buy the 12%.

Its a single bulb with an led dawn bar in line. I'll be keeping the 12 inch distance when i get the xl reptibreeze up and running next week

Need advice on insects please
I'm getting rid of my crickets as the small escapees grow wings and chirp all night long. Its depressing and very upsetting too. I'm a poor sleeper anyway, so i don't these buggers adding to insomnia!
I've ordered dubia and red runner roaches in their place. Plus ive hoppers too, which he likes. I hope he'll not miss the crickets! Wax worms didn't appeal to him unfortunately. Any thoughts

take a look at the sheet for good recommendations on what to feed.

I buy my feeders from silkwormstore which have a great variety of insects and will do fast shipping to your house.
Since youre in ireland they might not ship to you but they do in england no idea go check out there website.

Then you need 9 inches to basking with the 6%... With the 12% you need a full 12 inches to basking branch. IMO using the 12% is overkill and you lose more room on the top half of the enclosure which is the most used space of the entire cage.

I lose 30% with mesh roof hence the higher bulb. I thinks thats the reason that kits are sold with them

The 9 and 12 inch basking distance accounts for the 40% you lose through the screen... This is why using a 12% is not needed and overkill. You still get a 3 UVI at 9 inches using a 6% bulb the same as using a 12% at 12 inches produces a 3 UVI. This is as high of a UVB exposure as they should be exposed to.
