What are the dimensions of the tank (is it a typical fish aquarium)? What type of ventilation does it provide (side vents or just the screen top)? Where do you live? What species are you interested in?

A typical narrow deep aquarium shape won't be all that good for a cham as they need a lot of 3 dimensional space for live plants to climb in. If the tank has no side vents, doors, or screen panels it will be hard to regulate the temp and humidity levels. Before you decide, please check out the sticky messages about basic cham husbandry and do some reading on the more commonly kept species such as veiled, panther, jackson's. You would have to plan this tank pretty carefully to make sure it would work well. Once you do some basic reading we can help you with more specific questions.

yes a basic fish tank but its pretty big i would say from what i read the height should be good and i can get the humidity up in it when i need to and yea only a top screen then a wooded thing that holds the light on top of the screen and it has 2 doors on top. and just the veiled one is what im looking at. i live in michigan. the tank is 4 foot long height is 22 inches tall and width is 17 inches long.

22"for height is just not tall enough for a panther/veiled. They are arboreal and live off the ground.
That might however make a good beardie or gecko cage!

Go to the photography section of this forum and look at members' enclosures. There you will will see what is necessary to keep a panther or veiled. Adult chameleons need a 4 ft high, 2 ft wide and 2 ft deep screen enclosure. Chameleons need a lot of ventilation and glass is generally a no-go.

*edit* That section doesn't exist, haha. Do a search for enclosure pictures and you'll see. Here's a link to mine:

That's not going to work for several reasons (what are you reading?). If you try using it in the "normal" orientation it won't provide much vertical climbing space for adult veiled cham. If you turned the tank on one end to give a 4' height (minimal) you would have to replace the "top" with a screen panel so your cham could get the proper exposure to UV lighting (UV doesn't pass through glass). Then you would need to make a glass/screen paneled door for the front. It will take a lot of modification to the tank so you may be better off building a cage or buying one that is designed for arboreal herps IMHO.

Now a nice large tank like this would make an awsome terrarium for a group of pygmy leaf chameleons!

okay well how much does a cage for them go for? and how much r those type of chameleons? and thanks everyone for the info love to see ppl help.

edit; got a baby female veiled chameleon. named her maryjane.
