A chameleon that does not like water?

So I find it very interesting in reading posts about how most chameleons like showers, mistings and hang out at the dripper. I have never seen Spike (veiled) drink one drop of water. I'm sure he does since his white blob is white and not yellow. He hates it when I mist his cage too! What's up with that!

Alot are closet drinkers. Some like rain, some like mist, some stay at the dry end till the rain is over then walk over to drink.

I have two veileds as well and I hardly ever see them drinking as well. I think they do it when I'm not in the room. Mine don't like to be misted either.

i have a veiled aswell he drinks in front of me from the dripper but a lot of chams will not do this they will wait till your gone as for the mistings fred hated them at first and its only lately he will actually walk out to the front of the cage to get a full on misting he even turns to get both sides.if your chams urates are white and he doesnt seem to have sunken eyes hydration doesnt sound like an issue.have you tried using warm water to mist it seems to work better.i boil the kettle and then add some cold water to get it luke warm and i generally make myself tea at the same time :)

I have had my Randall (veiled) since Nov 1st he was 4 months old and I have never seen him drink once, But he has to be sometime as his urates are white. I would love to see it just once lol

Don't worry, you're not alone. My little guy when he sees me pumping his mister, he already knows and starts finding a place to hide. I've only seen him drink out of his dripper once which was last weekend. Then again, I'm at work during the week. Lets see if I catch him again this weekend haha.

Veileds in don't drink a lot anyway.....in the wild most of their water comes from their insects. Make sure those are well hydrated and there's not really any reason for him to drink much extra. Always best to give him the option in case he does drink a bit in private of course.
My chams didn't like misting at first, but they are both nicely used to it and drink at least a couple of drops every day when I spray.

My 4 month old veiled does not like water either. I tried the shower method once and he just about had a heart attack. His eyes and urates look good though.

I saw him drink for the first time about two weeks ago. I was able to get him out of his cage and on a silk ficus tree for some nice sun outside, and I stood about 7 feet away with a spray bottle and used the spritz nozzle instead of the fine spray. I aimed it up in the air and the water arched and landed on the tree and I saw opening his mouth a little and at least tasting the water. Later that same day when he was back in his cage, I saw him attempting to drink drops from the MistKing's "rain" nozzle (mist nozzle a few inches above the screen, which creates about a 4" circle of rain drops). Even stranger, about an hour later, I saw him venture down towards the bottom of his cage where I have a drainage hole drilled out in the front corner. There is a "hair catching" screen that fits in the hole so nothing can escape. He saw the water drops at the bottom of the screen and it caught his eye and he climbed down and stuck his head into the hole and was drinking the water.

I told myself "this dummy managed to find the dirtiest water available to drink" but I had just cleaned the cage and the water was only dripping down fake vines (not percolating through soil) so I figured it wouldn't be too bad. I have seen him do that one other time.

As of now, I am going to be starting day 2 of a free range set up in my garage. I noticed he seemed pissed to be in his cage after spending a few hours in his silk ficus tree in the sun, so I figured he would be happiest living in that tree all the time. Now I just have to stick to telling my dog "MY LIZARD" when I get him out and show her. Although I have a feeling if she went up to him he would puff up and hiss and she would take 4 steps back, just like what happens when she corners a cat every now and then.
