A Couple New Sires

Haven't been posting much, but took some pics for some friends, and thought that I would post 'em up.

The first is a fourth generation Ambilobe, Maximus. He's 10 months old now, but was breeding at six months, and we expect offspring available late summer. Sometimes one finds a larger amount of white coloring with Ambilobes, such as the first Anubis, WC in 2002. And some deep reds and purples, as with WC Hyperion. We sold a half-dozen or more of his sibling brothers last year, long before the color was so crazy. Don't know how they ended up. He is 100% Ambilobe though. Prolly the craziest we ever cranked out too.

The second is a first generation CBB Nosy Faly, Horatio. He has siblings in the states and Canada. He is 12 months old, and was breeding last Fall as well.

We will be adding many new bloodlines to our site this year. This is just a tease. Enjoy.

Did some checking, and first eggs from Maximus should start hatching in about 9 weeks. From Horatio in about 5 weeks. Max was bred back into an unrelated red background bloodline the first couple times, so we'll see.

For reference, below is Anubis, a 2002 import, who had about as much white as we were accustomed to with some Ambilobes. That would be Max's great-great-grandaddy.

I get photos back from customers on occasion, but probably only about 2% of the time, and Max's colors were late-blooming. So I really do not know if he was just a freak of the clutch, which happens on occasion, where one animal is way over the top, or if his sibs were outrageous too.

On the upside, I kept three of his sisters back, and we have eggs cooking from them as well.

That is one of the coolest Ambilobes I have ever seen. I would be interested in getting a female from that line when they are ready. That thing does not even look real! Stunning cham!

I gotta agree. We have never had white like that in even the whitest Tamatave or Nosy Boraha. We eliminated those locales 8-9 years ago, as once you produce a few, they do not sell. The only WC's of any Locale that we have brought in for the last four years, up until the last month when we brought in a boatload, were Faly's. Max is pedigree Ambilobe thru and thru, but certainly came out as a freak.

If I photograph him in the sun, my camera goes haywire, as the white is too bright. He has been bred to purple-bar red background females from Hyperion. We have a male sibling to those girls who is almost a mini Hypo. If we aren't careful, we're gonna end up with 100% Ambilobes that look 100% Tamatave, and that is not where we want to end up.

LOL ... yeah, although the "update" in the site refers to text, and if I had the time, I would rewrite the whole thing. Prolly will in the next couple years. Most of the text is vintage 2005.

Otherwise, I have been advertising little, but have waiting lists that will stretch until 2013. So forgive us folks, but while we do not want to disappear, we also keep a farily low profile on marketing, as otherwise I spend all day saying "No", and there is work to do instead. We are genuinely trying to expand, but true expansion, with new blood, etc., takes up to 18 months per cycle. Caging is really a chore to build ones that can stand up to the weather and greenhouse for more than 5 years. The ones we build now will outlive me, but they do take time. Every cage in the website is long gone, btw. I have personally burned over 400 such cages in the last 32 months, as we put new ones in, and the wood was too degraded in the old ones to keep. We'll put up some new pictures in due time.

Wow, that is insane, what you stated already makes me feel tired haha. It would be great to see pictures of your new setups and good to see you here on the forums from time to time

LOL ... hey Dez. Hope all is well. In all my years of breeding, that is probably the most unexpected outlier we have ever produced. As you know, Mom and Dad, although we use bloodlines to market, are not always the best indicators of offspring, in that it is just as often a crapshoot.

This one came "out of left field". I am amazed and hopefull of future offspring, as we had some killer bloodlines to breed him back into. But until we replicate that, he is still nuts.

Still, your husbandry section is one of the most comprehensive care guides that I have seen.

Pics of new cages? Also, how did the white ambilobe looks as a youngster? What about him made you hold him back, white doesnt usually develop right away.
