a couple questions about my veiled....

got a few questions regarding my juve male veiled:

when i have his dripper going i sometimes see him shoot his tongue at the drips coming through the top of the cage. is it safe for his tongue to be making that much contact with the screen cage where its dripping through or should i make the dripper drip inside the cage?

also a question about the humidity in his cage. if i keep the gauge in his basking area, it can get into the 20%'s, but in his plants lower in the cage the humidity remains significantly higher(around 40 unmisted). if he starts getting dry or dehydrated will he know to move to a lower place, or should i work on getting the humidity up in his basking spot also. i know it should always be at least 40, but these number are when his cage is completely unmisted and dry. i try to keep his cage in the 50-70 range after misting.

Try using some aquarium tubing to make it drip in the cage. The humidity should be around 40-50% in the lower parts of the cage when dry and it should go up to 70-90% when misting. The basking area will always be a bit different than the rest of the cage.

Is the water dripping onto a leaf or just straight into a catch pan? Chameleons drink water off leaves not just catching drips in the air. Try putting a safe plant (potho, ficus or scheffalera) close to the dripping water so it rolls off the leaves. I would not recommend a fake plant as veils eat foilage and if ingested might cause blockage.

hes got two umbrellas that take up over half the cage, and yes i do have it dripping onto some leaves. he likes to chomp on the wet leaves sometimes to get some water or just lick off of them, but i also notice him shooting his tongue out at the dripper. i have a tube connected to it, but i didnt put a hole through the screen for it to fit through. the tube just extends out and drips on top of the screen. should i just poke a small hole and feed the tube through the top screen to avoid this?

There ya go man... poke a hole hang the tube lower so he is not shooting at it... He may try to climb it though so be careful and have it secured pretty good...

Put zip tiies where the hose meets the nozzle... that will hold it... they are pretty smart on what will hold them or not
