ok so my new cham that i just got is being sooo stubborn...to be a nice guy i decided to give him 2 silk worms and it whent all bad after that...the worst thing i could do...he wont eat crickets now...at first i thought there was something wrong with him because he wasnt eating the crickets...so i called the kammers to tell them what was going on ant tey asked me for pics of my set up...but i kinda figured out what was going on after i gave hime a silky and he ate it rite away..then the kammers told me that he had never eaten a silk worm before ...so i fudged up big time...i dont know what to do...any one ever had this problem??i need some help...or my cham needs rehab...lol......hes hooked...

I'm sorry Camimom, but I shall have to disagree with you!

I think silkworms are 100,000% better than crickets, so I don't think it's a better thing for him to be hooked on crickets than being on silks or other insects. If you tell me he's hooked on mealworms then, yes, I'd tell you to "starve" him for a couple days until he takes crickets again. But sounds like you're having the opposite problem, he has excellent taste

Crickets are really awful in phosphorous:calcium ratio (3:1) which is why we supplement them. BUT, they're easy to keep and gutload, so we like them. Remember that at the end of the day you want to be giving him variety like you've been doing. If you continue to mix things up he should accept crickets again soon enough.

I have 3-4 staple feeders in the house at all times, so crickets aren't a huge part of the diet. So mine don't get bored with them. I would keep feeding him whatever other insects you have on hand and occasionally keep offering him a cricket.

But if it makes you antsy, do what Camimom suggested and that may get you results faster. I just don't blame him for liking the yummy stuff! lol

oh no......it bugs me when my chams wont eat...lol...how many days do you think it will take?he ate like 5 silk worms today...do you think i should try to offer him some dubis?

yup thats what i was thinking ...that he likes the tasty stuff...i tryed offering him some supers too and he wont take them i even threw in a mealworm and nope i guess it will take a few days...can he be raised healthy on silk worms?

The onyl reason i suggested not using the silkworms alot (thought i totally agreee they arebetter) is because most of us cant find them, or they are more expensive to get. personally, i cant find them amnyhwere right now.

yes. thers a memmber here, i think maybe even olimpia, has a cham who only eats silks. hates crickets and dubias...

he can live off them just fine, and they are really goood for him, just expensive.

My male veiled Kink happily and greedily grabs his horns up. but when it comes to his crickets. he takes his measily time.

mine loves silks but he like supers too. I try to feed mainly silks and throw a super or two in. I will do like 5 silks and two supers or something like that. Now crickets, forget about it! I just let 25 or 30 of them go in my back yard and all the little anoles came out of the woodwork hunting them down! The crickets are about as big as them! lol! i will have to take a picture next time I do it.

Krunch will not eat crickets.
He is just fine on silks, horns, butters phoenix.
I try a super or dubia now and then for something crunchy, and s is healthier than ever
