Advice for a dog that keeps getting himself into serious trouble?

TLDR whole thread, but...

As for a good permanent chew toy (and I cant imagine a vet would ok this) but I used to have this dog, that would chew literally everything and anything. I had to remove EVERYTHING from the back yard, and when I did, he started taking out fence posts. I had to keep a stack of new ones on hand.

Well, I had a bunch of EMT connectors and fittings, all screwed together in a clump (for no particular reason) and he took a liking to it. I would tighten it all together (with tools) and he would chew it until he had it all apart, then I would rebuild it. :)

Worked great, and never had any issues from it.

Oh man, it sounds like you're doing just about everything possible to wear the little guy out! I'm glad he made it through surgery. I just had my little dog Coco go through surgery, and, man, does it make wallets cry!

The only thing I would add to the other suggestions/precautions, is to be careful with carpeting when you crate him if it's a metal crate. I have a female dog that we adopted, and she will tear through carpet if she is left in a kennel/crate (near/on carpeting.) I think she had some serious issues with her previous owners because she used to hate men and she had some super fears of small enclosed spaces (like a crate or blocked off small area.) As a result, she would take down any carpeting near by while in the crate. She even did it if we closed a room door for the first few weeks we had her. We couldn't get her to get over the fear even with her favorite foods, so now she just roams the house when we are gone. Thank goodness she is well behaved/lazy otherwise.

Yes, it does Kara! My boyfriend is indignant, he says he could have gotten a brand new motorcycle for what I've put into this little guy so far.

I have one of those solid-ish crates, the ones that would be great for plane travel. It's solid on the bottom half and the top has the holes to peek through and for air, so I don't worry about him getting anything through the crate. It's a big one too, for 70lb dogs (and he's barely 19lbs) because he didn't fit in his normal one with the cone of shame after the first surgery, plus the cone would scrape across the metal bars or get stuck and he just looked terribly uncomfortable. But since this one is smooth he can wear his cone in there (again) and be comfy.

I will be calling the vet at 2 today and see if he can come home. Last time he had to spend 2 nights with them, since his intestines were really bruised but this time we caught it sooner since we recognized the symptoms. Should be home later today! We miss our little Milou when he's gone. He's such a pain but such a lovable dog.

I know what you mean! My mom, jokingly, said that Coco better live to be 20 years old to make up for the money. :) Then of course, the next day Coco got too excited and one of his metal pins (in his leg) came out. The vets were very sympathetic and took care of it for free since we'd already spent a good $4500-$5000 on him.

Milou has that "I didn't do it" look. :)

The food coloring pictures are cute.

Thankfully the coloring came out alot easier on the dog, than it did from the carpet. haha.
