What is the best heating system you would recommend and lighting system for a veiled chameleon???
Thanks

Zoomed Reptisun 5.0 linear flourescent tube is the recommended UVB lighting. A 60-100 watt household lightbulb works great for a basking heat souce. They should both be on 10-12 hours daily.

We havent got her yet...she is a veiled chameleon.
Oh so we dont need any heat source at night?? We was told we had to have a heat source.

What is the temperature of the room at night?
My temps are at 15 to 16 degrees celsius at night in the room that the veileds are in.

our doesnt drop lower than 15 at night, depends what the weather is like!! We live in a very old flat and when its cold...its cold!! So we tend to keep the heating on all night. Obviously not in the summer though!

Should be fine with no additional heat then.
They actually benefit from a drop in temperature at night as long as they have a chance to warm up in the day.
I would not keep the warmest part (basking spot at the top of the enclosure) higher than 29 or 30 degrees during the day for a female.

Thats a big help, thank you!!
We will test run the tank before she goes in....were be testing the temps for a couple of weeks. Very exciting!!!

Excellent!
Good luck, and be sure to read the article on keeping a female on the link I gave you.
It is exciting.

does anyone know how safe it is for a cham to go without a uv bulb?
Ive noticed balck spots on the bulb and im told thats when they stop giving off uv rays.
I was going to wait til the end of the month(payday) but will stretch it if it means my cham will get ill without one that long

It's not a good idea, particularly if the animal is young.
LLL Reptile sells the tubes for 13.99 each and shipping is minimal.
I would order from there as soon as possible.
In the meantime do not remove the old bulb as any UVB it is producing is better than none.
I have never had one get spots on it ... what brand are you using?

aaron1 > How old is the UVB tube? Mine dont usually get black ends /spots until well past its useful UVB life (i continue to use the bulbs sometimes in my greenhouse, after they've served their purpose in the cham cage). Generally a ReptiGlo tube light will last 6 months in terms of UVB and reptisun a little bit longer, i think
