Age approximation and Sex.

Hey guys so I get my first chameleon, I was wondering if you could give me an age approximation and the sex?


also is it normal to them look all ribbey like that? from what I have seen it looks very skinny and/or starved? The pictures its hard to tell, however when it bends you can see its ribs very very clearly.

Ribs aren't the best way to judge body condition, especially in juveniles. Their ribs can show differently as they move around and if they are partly inflating or not. Look at the base of the tail...a nicely rounded tail (oval in cross section from top to bottom) is good. A tail with prominent tendons (stringy looking) is thin. A completely round tail is a bit fat.

I think you have a male there, but would like to see some more close ups of the tail/vent area. Also hard to tell the age without a comparsion like being on your hand or something. Pics can make them appear larger than they really are.

I kinda have to agree with him lol. This is the second post I have seen from the prophet and neither make since really.

I will try to get some more pics today, he/she is still pretty stressed I think. he/shes body (not including tail) I would say is about an inch maybe 1.5 inchs. to give you an idea that branch is small, like half inch wide.

Okay so for a comparison size. I got this pic, he likes to hide a lot so its hard to get pics. I tried to get him to come to my hand he isn't ready yet. So may have to wait on the sex thing. Also he seems to be pooping, there is a little what looks like poop around the base of his tail. Its kinda darkish brown with a spot of yellow. I already assumed he was dehydrated as when I got him LLL was waiting to ship him (To them got delayed) they got him and them shipped him to me. Plus the first few times I sprayed he stood in it and opened his mouth then licked the leaves. I have been misting him a lot due to that. He doesnt seem to like be sprayed now and doesnt lick the leaves as much so I assume that is getting corrected.

Anyway here is the pic next to a normal size (like 1/8 inch thick) Ziptie. For a reference. If you want I can reference the zipties to my hand. However its just a regular ziptie not a industrial or whatever.

Oh also on the sex thing. I got him/her from LLL. They dont guarantee sex (which is understandable) I did ask for a male though. Anyway, the top of his cup said Ambilobe Panther, and had a B with a circle around it. I am not sure if this means "Blue Bar" "Baby" or "Boy". I guess only time will tell. I plan to get another down the road so it doesn't matter I guess, but a boy would be nice for my first.

He does have a bump, but I think thats his vent? I have a video with a better pic I will try to extract the pic from that.

BTW they move slow so idk, but he seems fairly active. Every time I go in there (once every 30 mins or so) he is in a completely different spot, sometimes on the other side of the cage.

EDIT: Managed to get a better pic with a comparison. He is basking now, still closing his left eye alot so I sprayed him. Anyway here he is next to the zoomed thermometers temperature probe.

Ya I know, guess I will just have to wait at least for a bit. He doesn't stay put lol, when I have taken him out I have to use both hands he just goes and goes and goes lol. I had to put him on the ruler 5 times to get that pic lol. He kept running to the other side and almost falling off. He needs time to adjust I think before I bother him more.

On the plus he is cool about it, at first it took a nudge from the back to get him to climb my hand, he is more willing now. He hasn't hised at me or changed stressed colors not once yet, he seems friendly or she does so I guess thats good. I have some more pics if they help.

And the spot on his tail is poop lol, he had a really big piece. Got most the poop off his tail still a tad stuck on there though? I thought it was an injury for a second it isnt though I looked it under close light.

I got a semi better pic this is hard without a dslr and trying to not stress him out. He has alot of color in this shot. Not sure if thats stress? He was like that when I came in the room hes trying to get to the top screen all day today. On another note, he hasn't seemed to eat a lot yet. but his eye issues seem to be gone and he is being more active this afternoon then I have seen him be at all, so I think he is feeling better now. He is crawling on all the screen sides and trying to get to the top he has been non stop moving since like noon (its 4 now).

Not sure if it helped or not but due to the other thread, I raised his basking temp to shut off at 90, and its about 84-85 right now (I raised the light when I went in and took this pic to helpful bring it to around 82-83. When its 78-80 he just sits in the shade and does nothing? I raised the heat and hes all over now.

Anyway hope this pic is better.

I remember reading somewhere that males white stripe wont be very broken up and female's would be? Not sure if that holds merit or not but his is pretty solid. This the first time I have seen him change colors like that so hopefully that means he is feeling better.

I am curious is he changing like that to reflect the light? Thats what I thought so I raised it. However he is trying to get to the light, he wants to get right up to it lol. So IDK does he want it hotter? I read all kinds of information prior to getting him but that doesn't really do much in the grand scheme of actually having one lol.

Okay everybody I got a good Pic I think this one is the best, as I think I can see the bulge in this pic. Also When I went in there the temp was high again. it was at 85.3f, And now he isnt trying to climb the to the screen anymore so apparently he wants it 85 in his basking spot.

the shadow makes it kind of deceiving but I think I can see a slight bulge.
