Age of fred

hi all this is fredrick leafy (as named by a 4 year old) we have owned him for about a month now im am wondering if anyone can help with his age we got him off a friend of a friend who said he has had him a couple of years now my main concern is that he could be old and not have much life left which will upset my 3 boys. I read they can have short lives any hel is appreciated and if there is any other ways of telling age just by looking at him thanks all

Well he is obviously a mature animal. The person you got him from probably bought him when he was less then a year old so I would say he is a couple years old. If you take care of him good and the last owner took care of him good he can live for 7 to 8 years.
