i got my chameleon yesterday. He was from a guy who worked at a pet store and had a kid so he didnt have time for it. He looks about 7-8 months old. and he eats crickets from a cup!! all i do is put the powdered crickets in a cup and he eats them then i take the cup out. no more worrying about those pesky things runnin everythere. the only thing i dont like is that he doesnt like to be sprayed... there is a mister that sprays every three hours... i hope he drinks when that goes off, but im tryin to get him used to being sprayed. im usin warm water. he has eatin twice today. 10 crickets total.. sounds good everyone???? the only thing i want him to do is eat out of my hand at some point. no rushin things.

someone corect me if im wrong. you shouldn't directly spray water onto your chameleon but spray the plants/ foilage in your cage for them to drink off as they are atracted to the movement of the water on the leaves/foilages there for your chameleon will drink from the leaves. also it mite rare that you see your chameleon drink while you are there so make sure you cheak for dehydration eg sucken eyes orange/brown urates instead of good white ones

Chameleons seem to enjoy drinking in private. Mine only drinks while I'm around if I offer him water from a pipette.

On the topic of spraying, I have asked around and the consensus was that there really isn't a wrong way to do it. Many chams will not like to be sprayed, but from time to time hydrating the skin through spraying is a good idea. This takes a lot of work because they deflect water until you have sprayed a whole lot.

I would say if your cham dislikes being sprayed, to spray the cage very well avoiding your cham and then give them just a few squirts from a distance. This way they can get a bit of water on them without driving them crazy. Many chams will drink as water pours down their head, just be gentle spraying near those eyes.

Tommy loves being sprayed - he sits and shuts his eyes and drinks and cleans his eyes the whole time! Amy absolutely hates being misted and will run and hide as fast as she can!

Triton loves being squirted with water and will drink from the sprayer. But I give him little squirts simulating rain. I don't spray him full force like you would spray a plant. Chams don't get sprayed in the wild...so because of that they don't like it. My young female Jackson's doesn't love being squirted and really didn't like it to start but is getting used to it. But even if she didn't like it I'd squirt her anyway because it's good for them to clean out their eyes and get a little moisture on their skin. JMO :)

I do mist my cham Saki directly, but I use one of those misting bottles that is battery operated, so it is a fine mist, and I use warm water. Sometimes he will hide, most of the time he will actually drink from the mist, and clean his eyes. He lets me know he has had enough by walking away.

awsome. thanks for the info guys. he has white droppings and his eyes look good so i guess hes hydrated. just shy about drinking.

What kind of supplements are you dusting the crickets with? You should be using 3-Calcium without d3 every feeding, calcium with d3 twice a month and a multi vitamin twice a month. Are you gutloading your crickets? Also, at 7-8months you should be offering him a variety a feeders such as silkworms, superworms, hornworms, butterworms, etc.

well ive only had him two days. the the first day i did calcium without d, today i did the multi nitriants. i gotta get other insects besides crickets.
