Air Freshener

Every feeder I have owned has smelled bad at one point or another. Cleaning works the best, so usually I do that every month or so depending on how many feeders I have in one container. I like the idea of coffee grounds, though. The dubia roaches have a nauseating smell and so did the crickets when I owned them. I have a humidifier in the room with my chameleon and my feeders, and for some odd reason, when I turn it on, the smell gets way better. It is something to try I guess. I honestly can't explain it :p

I've always had two bins for each size and type of insect. I put the "fresh" orders in the clean bin and transfer any remaining insects from the dirty bin and then clean the dirty bin out ready for the next "fresh" batch of insects. It keeps the smell down.

I didn't have a ton of airflow, just holes, but that bin is modified now, but the crickets still smell bad in general.

Three screening portholes. One massive one ontop, two on the sides that are a bit smaller. It all helps massively and a good cleaner crew comprised of those who eat dead, those who eat mold and left over foods.

Dubia should not smell in opinion and it shows something is massively wrong with your colony. I don't mean that as a bash on you. Just a warning that, that's a red flag. I haven't really cleaned my bin except for old fruits and anything moldy in the last 6 months and I have zero smell, and my cleaner crew and easily dessimating all dead and left over food/vegetation that dries quickly. Just be aware guys, correctly kept inverts barely smell. Crickets smell slightly more than others, but everything, everyone describes show something is off and it causes more work for you as keepers.

I just bought new roaches. The old ones were thrown out and they smell much better now. I do get a bit worried when they smell and I tried to pinpoint the problem. I took all roaches out, got new ones, and clean the holder thoroughly. Thank you for the help
