Airplane?

He he cheers Ben, I was planning to, especially about the part where Nosy became potentially the fastest chameleon in the world when we discovered we were on the German Autobahn which has no speed limit. However my son was born early this week and adjusting to that I'm finding it hard to sneak on ChameleonForums, and when I do its the "NickyChameleon" show so I usually give up and go back to reading up on how to be a first time Father :D

Hopefully in the future when things have settled down, I appreciate the interest.

Pete

Congratulations on the new member of your family :)

Just another 2 cents from someone who has traveled extensively with pets (cats)....The airlines will allow animals into the cabin if they are in a carrier that will fit under the seat in front of you. This is the best and cheapest way to transport an animal. The baggage compartment can be dangerous if the plane is on the runway in hot weather. The baggage compartment can get quite hot but this is usually a summer problem.

The Australian government considers dogs and cats to be exotic animals. They are VERY paranoid about possible invasive foreign species. Read about rabbits and cane toads. They do not allow any reptiles to be imported legally and illegal importation can lead to 5 years in jail or a $110,000 fine. For more information see: http://www.environment.gov.au/biodiversity/wildlife-trade/exotics

FWIW, I have tried flying with birds, frogs, snakes, chams, or small animal other than a lapdog or cat and didn't have much luck getting the OK to have them in an underseat carrier. Sometimes they would accept a small bird but it usually had to be something pretty recognizable like domestically-produced poultry, canary, or parrot. Maybe this differs more by airline, but the key is, you MUST call the airline specifically ahead of time to be sure. They will book a reservation for your animal regardless whether you have to check it or bring it in the cabin. Don't just show up with an animal as your carry-on and expect them to accept it.

Just did a quick check for Delta and they allow dogs, cats and birds in the cabin depending on destination. No in cabin animals for international flight. My last flight from Thailand to the US allowed us to put a cat in the cabin, don't remember the carrier. I would not want a chameleon on a flight in baggage for the 18 hours it takes to flight to Australia even if they allowed it to happen. Sad for the OP who clearly loves her animal.
