5 mins ago the last veiled chameleon hatched. They are all now in their cages and I have witnessed a few of them eating. All of them look healthy. 100% hatch rate, hopefully all of them will make it through the first week, hopefully I make it through the first week:eek:. I weighed a few of them it looks like they are ranging from .8-1.1 grams. Does anyone from experience know how much a hatchling weighs? I am going to keep track of their weight every week and record it. If anyone knows the weight of veiled chameleons as they grow from hatching please let me know. I'm so happy they are all out now!!:D:D:D:D

great job! when i get breed my chams, im coming to you for info on egg care :) lol congrats and i hope ur babies stay healthy

hell you should measure them 10 times a week

Brad is right, don't tell me that. I would be measuring every single one every day if someone told me to.

Congratulations on a 100% hatchrate! I didn't search your postings- did you say what temps you incubated at? And how long it took?

I had low temps in the beginning, it was around 68-70F for about 2 months- then I raised it up to 73-74F for the rest of the time. They were laid in June last year so that makes it a 9 month incubation time. I think the long time did them good, because they are massive. Tomorrow I will go get a memory card and post a few pics of them showing their size.

Don't tell him that!
He will:eek:
Once a week is what I would do.
Sheeesh.

Thanks Brad, your right I probably would do it if more people told me to. I am going to stick to measuring every Saturday and I will post my results. I am going to make a chart and everything for anyone to use in the future. It may be a good thing for you to post onto your site once it is done.

If they were mine i'd measure them twice a week for the first two or three weeks. Your gonna see some serious growth during this time frame and it might be a good idea to keep an eye on each one of them and their size and put them into cages according to size and sex cause some will grow faster than others. Once a week will be fine too but just watch out for the ones that beat out others to food, those guys need to be isolated into other cages.

I think I might do it a few times a week for the first 2 weeks and then slow down after that. I have seen a few more eat since I last posted. I am going to get another tank and separate them. So I will have 4 cages and 10 in each tank.

Why even measure the weight? Is it for you own data? I think the best thing to do is pick a small sample size of like 5 chams and measure their weight if you have to, that way you don't have to mess with the other 35. They should all grow at a pretty even rate so they will all be around the same weight (does knowing a tenth of a gram matter). I think making a line graph with time being the x axis and weight being your y axis would be cool and then you can find the slope and constant.

I think the data would be interesting.
They will not all grow at the same rate.
Measuring a sampling from each size group would be enough though.

I think it would be great for others to be able to reference back to a chart of growth when they are raising their own veiled chameleons. I wish I knew the average weight of a veiled as it grows to compare it to mine.

The problem is, as interesting as I think this will be, there is no standard.
some hatch at 6 months, some at 10 months.
I have seen HUGE 8 week old veileds and I have seen 4 month olds that look like 5 week old animals.

In addition to weighing you will need to record food intake and your methods for making sure they all get to eat.

You will surely have a group that outgrows the others and probably various sizes below them.

This will all become evident in the next several weeks, and I look forward to hearing about it.

I have seen a few droppings since this morning. They are so tiny so it is hard to see but right now they are very liquidy. Is that normal for them to be that way?

congrats on the 100% hatch rate , i see your eggs did fine and are lil chams rippin around ahaha the feelin of them hatching its sweet lol i sure was excited but yea some will be like that because of the egg sac they have been feeding off of or they have drank alot of water will result in that liquidy squishy stuff aha

Congratz on the 100% hate rate!! Good luck with the new babies and having tons of crickets.

All of them are still alive and eating!!!!:D:D:D. Every single one of them look as healthy as can be.

My first mistake was getting the pinhead crickets, that was a waste of buying them. I just got my order of 1/4" crickets today and they are tearing them up. They go nuts for them, it is hard to keep up with them, I have to keep on throwing more in for them to eat.

Glass aquariums suck for hatchlings, I love the rubbermaid ones. In the glass they keep trying to get out and crawling on the walls, also I had to cut all 4 corners of glue because they would climb up the little bead of silicone and fall down.

I catch a few of them sleeping during the day but it is only a short time, I am not too worried about that because it is only the first week.

So far if I could redo anything it would be:
1. to get 1/4" crickets to start out with
2. not to use the glass tank the first 2 days.

I had comcast come out the other day and they messed up my internet connection for the past day and I felt like I was going through some kind of withdraw. I wanted to share my success with everyone and I couldn't:mad:.

Forgot to add the droppings are now solid and look good. It is amazing watching these guys eat and stretch from branch to branch, they are really strong.

All still alive and kickin. They still are eating healthy with the 1/4" crickets. I feel like they are not getting any bigger but it is probably because I see them every day and spend so much time watching them.

They averaged at about 1 gram when they were born, how much weight do you think they will gain in their first week? I will be weighing them Saturday and I hope to see something more than 1 gram.
