All white poop

Hello everyone,

Haven't posted in a while which is kind of a good thing seeing how bandits is doing excellent.

I switched from crickets to silkworms as he's staple diet. Today he pooped and it looks like an all white sack almost. Just wondering what that means.
Here's a pic before I took it out.
Thanks
Chris

Kind of a ridiculous guess, but to me it looks like a silkworm coccoon, but I doubt it was alive and lived long enough in stomach acid to coccoon.

Are you from Alameda? like 94501 alameda?

And it def looks like your chameleon ate something juicy...Maybe a silkworm or something.

Does the poop smell? Usually smelly feces is a sign of parasites.

Lol ummmm ya? Why?
And it doesn't stink anymore then usual unless their poop doesn't smell at all.

haha because i'm from Alameda...Just double checking because theres a Alameda near LA. Small world.

And thats good that the feces doesn't stink. Just looks abnormal that it's all white also a bit runny. Won't hurt to get a fecal test done.

Sorry, didn't even see that you switched to silkworms from crickets...You def need variety with your chameleons diet. Feeding him only silkworms is the reason why your chameleons poop is all white/runny. He'd need something solid to help him digest his food. He may even get diarrhea.

Where did you get your cham from?

Silkworms are an excellent food but I believe that chams also need some "roughage" in their diet like they get with crunchier insects.

Small world indeed. Im in the coast guard so i wont be here for too long lol. I got him from Livingston lizard lounge. It was from an expo.

Thanks for the info. What exactly is roughage and why do they need them. I plan on starting to give him more hard bodied food just wondering.

Thanks.

yeah super small world...Alameda is something else lol. Never thought i'd see a member on this forum from Alameda.

My buddies dad is in the coastgaurd. He's stationed in Alameda aswell. He's retiring soon so he'll be moving back to Texas.

And sorry about my comment earlier, i didn't even see that you switched up feeders to just silkworms. That explains why your chams poop is all white and watery. Silkworms are filled with water same with hornworms. Great food source though, just not a staple.

I'd go with Dubia Roaches, Super Worms, Calcium Worms, Crickets, & HornWorms. Be sure you're gutloading them properly and dusting them with supplements.

You can try going to PetClub in Emeryville, They sell Dubia roaches for cheap. Also 15 large adult crickets for $1. And you can pick up the supplements from there aswell. PetClub has good deals on a bunch of stuff.

Where did you get your silkworms from? Online?

Hi! It looks like the actual poop part is encased in the mucus part from the urates. Wet mucusy urates after eating a lot of silkworms is nothing to worry about and one bad poop is ok too :) keep an eye out for strange poop though.

One feeder should be no more than 20% of your chams diet, however, this can be difficult to achieve depending on where you live and what's available to you. At least 3 differen bugs should be used regularly so that your little buddy is getting a variety of nutrients. Silkworms are great! But all they eat is chow so they are basically the same every time. Other bugs like crickets and roaches can be gutloaded on loads of different stuff so they contain something a bit different each time.

What I meant by "roughage" is harder bodied insects--just like the ones GabeCastro has listed.
Like I said, silkworms are excellent but there should be a lot of variety in the diet.
BTW--when people mention hornworms DON"T ever feed a pet any hornworms from your garden. Hornworms eat tomato plants and the hornworms are then deadly toxic to your cham. Store bought feeder hornworms are fed a different diet and are then non-toxic.
Here's great info by a veterinarian who kindly participates in this forum, about gutloading your cham's feeder insects:
