Alternating eye swelling

Hi All,

Please help put my mind at ease (or help me fix my mistake)!

My girlfriend and I have just collected our second chameleon from a breeder and transported him home.

Having got home, I opened the box he was being transported in and scooped him up into my hand to transfere him to the viv. As soon as he was out of his box he leapt to the floor (about 4 ft to a solid wooden floor).

Once we scooped him up and put him in the viv we noticed a swollen eye. It seemed to inflate for a few seconds then deflate. A few minutes later, the other eye inflated then deflated.

We obviously rushed him straight to the vets and had him checked over. The vet says he seems fine (mobile, breathing properly, eyes rotating independently and fully) however we are concerned about the swelling in either eye.

Please help

chameleons do this i believe its a way of cleaning their eyes its not abnormal as long as it doesnt stay like that

as ciafardo said they do that.

Also to ease your mind about the fall. Chameleons puff up before they hit the floor and have special rib cages that can take a fall.

They do it as a defense mechanism. They will just drop when threatened. They can take a big fall if they land right and just walk away.

I had a cham do a back flip at the sight of my hand. His name is Fred and still with me.

I would imagine his eye issue could be from the fall if anything like dust got into his eye or something in his transport box? Was there a moist towel in his box or container?

My cham does this to clean his eye, whether its from debri, or some shed skin stuck in his eye, its perfectly normal
