Hello to all:

I am in need of a Chameleon cage. It will be for my Veiled that I am picking up next weekend from Chameleons Northwest. Which cage to you recommend: The Aluminum Screen Cage or the cheaper Black Mesh Cages? I need to make a final decision soon. Thanks

is aluminum safe?

I've herd of some metal wire cages cutting into chameleon hands before, some have recommended coating the cage in PVC coating too. Is this something you have to do to aluminum screen cages too? Or are aluminum screen cages generally safe for chameleon feet?

young chameleons tend to climb on the sides of cages. This is OK when they are little and they can pull their nails in and out easily. as they get older, if your cham is still climbing the sides a lot, you need to evaluate your enclosure setup and the surroundings of the cage. My panthers never climb the sides of their cages. Only time I ever had an issue with the screen cage and a chames nails was when trying to get a nippy veiled out of a cage.... in the fuss he got a nail pulled out :( poor guy. It tends to heal up OK as long as you keep it clean and there is a clean 'break'.
