Always wanting to come out

I've made a post or two before asking about why Leon always wanted to come out of his cage. This was before he got his massive one and had a small one, people told me that he needed a bigger cage, so when I got one, he still wants to come out! I think he has plenty of places to hide run and play but he still wants to come out. Is his cage still not big enough? He uses all of it! I just want to know why he still does this, my friend and I think that maybe he just thinks of my whole room as his cage or something. Heres his cage sort of now, It has one new plant in it in the back right corner filling in that whole spot and looping to the bottom.

Mine always tries to get out. When I open the door he RUSHES out to me, and when I try to put him back he wont climb off of me. I honestly think he just wants to be around me. Its bizarre knowing that most dont want to be held. It gets frustrating when I am trying to work on the cage or get the feeders in because I am constantly trying to put him back in as he gets out incredibly fast. He has never hissed at me or anything.

Dude me too! Mine does the exact same thing! People keep trying to tell me that I'm wrong and that chameleons wouldn't do that but I can't find any other explanation if It's not the cage thing. My friend is always saying how he loves everyone and I highkey want that to be true.

I know right? I do not think you are wrong because I see how much mine wants to be by people. If my husband or U go by his cage he immediately starts scratching at the glass doors towards us. Literally, once he is out, he is climbing everywhere on us, but when we try and put him back he refuses to budge. I literally have to pick him up from above( which he isnt bothered by, and I have to place him on a branch. Lol. So, I completely believe you ;) it is pretty darn cute. I am glad to hear you have one like mine because I feel proud I got a sweet little dude. Even the vet was extremely amazed with his temperament. Yours is a panther? Mine is as well :)

Yes! I've never heard of a chameleon other than Leon that likes to do this! This makes me feel better whenever he does this.

And 2 of my 4 Panthers do this, they are an explorative species. They dont love you, but they 'love' patrolling their territory and looking for food/mates. My one has a 4 foot enclosure higher off the ground than my head and yet he still crawls on me any chance. I find once they get used to coming out, especially in sun, they become more bold. More of a reason for Panthers needing larger cages than most species.

What sizing is your new big cage? You have a species that getsuch larger than our Jackson and ours is in a cage the sz pictured and will need an upgrade...Ours comes out now often, I've heard they'll pick whatever the lesser threat is, so if it's a small/crowded caging over where they percieve less of a threat....we have to build a much larger cage than current for our lil guy...It's hard to guess with every Cham being so different. Ours likes being outside, even in the grass if we are right there, but is happy just sitting on your head all day....he mostly goes in his cage to get nutrients via uvb, humidity and food.

My veiled does the same thing. He LOVES coming out and going exploring. It's not safe to let him free-range in our house, but I am thinking I need some kind of set-up in our living room with a large ficus and some vines so he can get some "exercise" while supervised. He's super "friendly" for a chameleon, which is AMAZING and I am so grateful! I love having a guy who isn't afraid of me or my kids and crawls all over us without hesitation. So much fun!

^ this exactly... didn't notice that. infact I mentioned this a long time back when OP brought this up in another thread.

I also notice that the description in another post says the enclosure is 2 feet wide and 4 feet tall. That is an OK size, but if raised up a few feet there would likely be less stress on the animal.

His cage is 48 by 22 so I think it’s pretty big, I’ll look into a table for him also.

Mine also rushes to get out as well. But its not because he wants to be around me. He just loves going to his window perch and he even climbs on the ground and roams around the room some. He however doesnt want me to touch him once he is out of his cage and on his own. Over the months of letting him roam free he trust me a lot more and doesnt hiss at me or get splotchy when i pick him up. (though he would still rather be left alone).

This is something my chameleon does. My dad @Matt Vanilla Gorilla and I have done some experiments to test a theory. Something we learned was that even if our hand is at the bottom of the cage the chameleon will come down and climb on us. All the chameleons we have ever sold have done this, and if you do not, believe me, you can ask @Kristen Wilkins here on chameleon forums. My personal belief is that your chameleon must love you because all the chameleons that we have sold have been shown love from us and have acted this way. What I suggest you do is spend time with your baby.

This is true . Septiseye is nothing but love . He would much rather be on us then any tree available . We do spend a tremendous amount of time with all our babies . The babies are fallowing the same .

I’m a firm believer That neither panther or veiled like to be caged at all . They love space the bigger the better for them . Our babies are free ranged the majority of the time . Most can not do this do to other pets , children’s , etc . Panthers like lots and lots of pathways ways . Or babies are Itsy-bitsy little things and they will walk clear across a floor , as do our big babies . If we leave a room Septiseye , and phoebe will fallow suit .

I keep my chameleons on tall trees and condos that are much taller than me. If I walk anywhere near them they come down reaching and grabbing for me. One even grabs at the dog, like hey you, you are a way off of here. :D
