Following my suspicion that Amy had an URI, I took her to the vets today, and although he couldn't feel anything abnormal in her abdomen, he agreed to xrays after what happened with dear old Tommy.
Well, after xrays he phoned me to say that Amy actually has pneumonia in her right lung. She also has a build up of gas in her abdomen which is causing her pain and the stretched neck breathing. He also said that although he couldn't feel any eggs in her belly, the xrays showed some masses that looks likw the beginnings of a clutch. I was sad to hear about her pneumonia but also very pleased that she isn't gravid or even eggbound. She had two injections, one in each side, of antibiotics and a pain relief/anti spasmodic drug. Poor girl came home sporting a pair of nasty black bruises on her sides.
When we got home she seemed happy to stay on my hand so I snuggled her inside my cardigan for a while and she slept a little. After about half an hour she perked up a little and started moving around so I put her back in her viv. She has since eaten 3 silkworms and had some water, so I am pleased with her progress for now. She has a check up at the vets again on Saturday, so I am taking each day as it comes with her right now. I just knew something wasn't right yesterday, but hopefully being so vigilant with my chams we have been able to stop the pneumonia in it's tracks before it takes too strong a hold on her.
This is what my little baby girl looked like when I brought her home - the bruising looks so dramatic! Poor Amy.
