Another friendly reminder about not making assumptions

Both very valid points! But saying things like "mealworms cause seizures" without any evidence that it is true in the slightest is the kind of thing I think Olimpia is referring to. Just misinformation being perpetuated instead of being based on multiple reliable experiences that have some proof behind them even if they can't be scientifically provided.

Exactly. Stuff that is just not true based on anything logical. The mealworm example is the kind of stuff that a new member might see and think "oh no! I must never feed mealworms because they cause seizures AND eat through reptiles' intestines!" And then poor mealworms get a new urban legend attached to them!

Because there are more than a couple ways to take care of these animals and do things, of course, but there's some information that can barely be called that.

There are some flat out myths that pop up over and over as "truth".

Mealworms (or supers, depending on who's telling it) can eat through the stomach, killing your chameleon.

Glass enclosures are deadly ovens that first drive your chameleon insane with all the reflections, then cook him with excessively high temperatures.

Females don't survive after laying eggs (that one was new to me, but just recently posted as "the reptile store guy said").

Stuff like that, I think is the issue.

I don't think anyone is suggesting that every comment needs to be prefaced with "in my opinion" or "in my experience" (though, that would be both truthful and nice, it could get tedious).

Great thread Olimpia, this seems to happen a lot. Good discussion going as well. As Elizadolots said "I don't think anyone is suggesting that every comment needs to be prefaced with "in my opinion" or "in my experience" (though, that would be both truthful and nice, it could get tedious).", I don't think we need to go that far either.
