Anxious because of a lamp?

My panther chameleon (~2 years old) gets anxious when I have to turn on a lamp in my bedroom. My bedroom doesn’t have lights so I have to use lamps and the windows so I don’t really have much of a choice at once the sun sets. Has anyone else experienced this?

If you need to use lamps after sunset, I would suggest draping dark curtain around the enclosure to block the lamps light. Please Do Not drape anything over the light fixtures!

So yeah if you use a lamp after the cham's lights out you need to make sure the cage is covered. Not the top of it and not like the bottom 4 inches though. You have to have ventilation. I bought a black out curtain for this and used command hooks on the cage then sewed little rings on the top of the curtain which I cut to size to fit perfectly on his cage.

So many questions! Is this just at night? Is it waking him up? What specifically is he doing that you believe is anxiety? Does he have any lights on at night? What color is your light and its shade? How bright is it?

It’s not even at night. The sun sets at like 4 pm and he definitely does not go to bed that early. I NEVER turn the lights on past his bedtime. It will be like 3 hours before his bedtime and anytime the lamp is on, he gets anxious. He is a purple bar ambilobe panther and when he’s nervous he turns to a yellow and red/orange-ish color. I try not to have any lamps on an hour before his bedtime.

I don’t think it’s the light itself, but probably is something that it is illuminating. Do you have any other animals in the room, or even pictures of animals that he can see? Maybe a dog or cat that follows you in? A mirror or window that shows his own reflection when the light is on? Something red that doesn’t show as well until the room is lit?

I don’t have any other pets. I have some goofy painting but he’s never been bothered by them before. The only animal on the wall is that painting of squidward (bold and brash?)
The mirror is next to his enclosure so he has no way of seeing it. He is not close enough to the windows to see his reflection but that has also never been an issue because when I let him explore, he likes to sit on the blinds or plants near the window and watches outside.
He has a zen habit enclosure.
I don’t really have anything red in my room.
