So my mom took me into the nail place to get a pedicure last Saturday. The next day I noticed my toe was burning and swelling. So I thought I'd just put peroxide on it and be on my way. The day after I decided to where tennis shoes due to the fact it was raining. Well it made it worse. Today I soaked my toe in peroxide and wore flip flops. It hasn't stopped throbbing since. Its red and swollen and I can barely walk.
It feels like my nail is going to fall off! I'm such a cry baby that stabbing it with a pin isn't in my mind. Neither is squeezing. So what to I do?

(not a nurse yet, in school)

stop with the peroxide!!! It will dry the crap out of your skin and make it worse.
Get some unscented Epsom salts, and soak with that. If you can make a doctors appointment do it, if for some reason you cannot, then soak every day a couple times a day, and try to bandage your toe keeping the moisture in (dry tissue won't heal well)
and wear loose shoes.

Then, post a picture of the afflicted toe...

And snake making threads more and more strange every day lol.

Getting a pedi then having something happen to your toe is strange, maybe the went a little too far and irritated the skin around the cuticle, did you notice any pain during the pedi?

I did have a ingrown toe nail on my other toe but the toe that's infected didn't hurt at all. The one that I thought would hurt (ingrown toe nail) doesn't hurt at all. Unfortunately, we have no insurance and I can't get a job to get insurance.

I would definitely try the epson salt soak, those always seem to do wonders and just feel all around good lol.

Could a piece of the cuticle pusher broken off into you toe/cuticle? Did they clip your nails way to far down? Kind of hard to know what could have happened to your toe, and as weird as it is for me to say it a picture may actually help -.-

I would bathe with salty water. Don't know about Epsom salts. If it is red, swollen , throbbing and you are having difficulty walking you need to visit the doc. Sounds as if the place you went did not clean there tools and you may have an infection there. Check the size of the area. Take a photo if you want but if the area gets bigger you need treatment.

The first step would be to rinse the area with clean water, removing any remaining peroxide, and cleaning the area in general.

The epsom salt soak may help it feel better, but I doubt it. Wouldnt hurt though.

A picture of the area would provide the best, and most accurate information, aside from an actual examination, so that further analysis could take place, and further solution could be given.

If its merely a peroxide burn, not much else can be done, and the area will be somewhat white in coloration if it is "severe".

If infected, then its likely the patient should see a doctor that can prescribe an appropriate antibiotic.

Do I want to see the afflicted toe? Not really.

Will I further assess it if a picture is provided? Sure.

Its not that bad a thing, nothing youd have to "view through a mirror" or anything...

I don't want to be a frightener but skip the peroxide get to a doctor and tell them what happened. It could be MRSA (an antibiotic resistant form of staph) which is nothing to mess around with. I'm not a doctor but I have bachelors degrees in both biology and marine biology. Just my recommendation.

Well toe is better. Has a spot that looks like a chemical burn. But I have another question. My son was diagnosed with strep throat again. This is the second, first time I didn't get sick. This time in sick. Is it possible for me to get strep throat?

If it is MRSA it will be incredibly painful, very swollen, and can get into your blood stream which is very dangerous.

I got MRSA from wrestling of course, and got in on my leg. Most painful experience of my life when they squeezed it and shoved in tweezers to rip out the root.

My recommendation, get an opinion from a dermatologist.

Yes you can contract strep throat from your son.

It would be completely unrelated to the toe.

It is possible for anyone to get strep throat.
