Any types of chameleon that don't require...

Are there any types of chameleons that don't require a high humidity and low temperatures?

The reason I'm asking is because I live in Arizona, it's getting close to summer time, and it'll start getting into the 120s, and I'm just a curious person.

What kind of chameleon (if any) would be able to survive low humidity and high temps?

(Yes, all of my other pets will be fine, I am getting a room AC-unit sometime before May)

Just out of curiosity. :)

There are 3 different species, take your pick!:D

LizardLover - yeah I just did a search on that, saw the YouTube for them and everything!

I've been told it's impossible to keep them in captivity.

Noooo thanks!

Perhaps you should look at Uromastyx? One would thrive in the temps you describe! They're, physically, nothing in comparison to a chameleon... but they make up for it with their cute little faces and awesome personalities! (and require a basking spot of about 130º) nothing would stop be from getting one if it wasn't so darn hard to get any part of your house up to 130º in a Minnesota winter.

But as far as chameleons... I don't know anything about any species like that.

Viaje - I've tried getting one of those little cuties, they remind me of bearded dragons in a way, just with horrible spiky, deathly-looking tails! I'm not sure I could handle the 130 degree temperatures, though, and I try to keep my house humid (which gives them URI's like no other I've heard!) for my chameleon and cresteds.. so my chances of getting a Mali are pretty slim.

Thanks though! :D

You already own one of the most temp and humidity tolerant species I believe... Being from Yemen.:) I wouldn't keep any cham in 120' weather though. You have AC right? Were you thinking of outdoor?

SoCaliSon - I was thinking the same thing, but I was wondering if there was something a little more tolerant of higher temperatures (for the hotter rooms of my house, which have more room than the humid LOL!)

Besides the fact they are from Yemen, aren't they also from the wetter, more humid parts of it as well? So they still aren't exactly... desert creatures. :p

"Geographic Range: Border between Yemen and Saudi Arabia: The veiled chameleon occupies high, dry plateaus and is found near the border of Yemen and Saudi Arabia along the foot of the escarpment and local wadis (inland river valley), to an elevation of almost 3,000 feet."

From: Animal Diversity Web from U of MI Museum of Zoology.

Editing my previous statement... It does state that the Terrestrial Biomes are Desert, Dunes and Mountains.

Ah, the wadis was the word I was looking for.. I guess they are as close to "desert" as I will see.

Veiled is going to be your best bet, and if you can get one thats actually closer to the desert region with the high casque. temps in that area can hit amazing highs with the sand amplifying the heat. they are though, but more research on your part would be required. also is you raised it in different conditions it will be on the assumption thats its life so it wouldn't have the same durability. i think. pure speculation though

im talking about Veiled chameleons. there are 2 types the more mountainous ones with a short casque, and a more arid type with the super tall casque. for you interests i would look at the super tall casque ones

Didn't know there were different types.. that sounds pretty awesome. Got any info on them?
