Anybody else have a cham who isn't shy to doze off ?

Kilo fell asleep on my BF's friend when I cleaned and set up his cage the first night I had him, I was sooo jelous! (He hasnt held him anymore cause im still kinda man)

Not to burst your bubble, but I bought my veiled when she was 2-3 months old. She was the friendliest cham in the world for two weeks and ever since she has been miserable.

I love her dearly, but she is very much just for show.

See how time treats your relationship, if you had come to me and asked how my Veiled behaved in those first two weeks, i'd have said that they're just little sweethearts.

Not so, imho.

They all get a temperant as age comes, so you need to respect and be patient if you want it to work. No forcing them out. No two chams are the same. They are get raised different ways and choose to act different ways.

My Jackson's loves me and my girlfriend, he climbs on her head and just relaxes. And he usually hangs out on my shoulder. I don't believe all the hype around don't handle them much. His colors stay nice and vibrant and he seems calm. I'm going to hang some vines around the room soo he can free range as well. I'm moving soon and will have tons of space in the room he will be in.

That's awesome !!! Great idea ! The chameleon has his own room here but were expanding to do the same :) there amazing creatures and need more credit. If your cham changes attitude take a look at what your doing and stop blaming the species !!

I think the "look but dont touch" school of thought comes mostly from ppl with science/naturalist/biology training.
Years ago, I talked to a few pHD scientists at zoos and conservitories about old world chams, and they gave me the same advise, forget it!! chams are wayyyyyy over your head as a non-pro reptile owner.
Stay away from them, if you get one, it will die within a few months, etc. etc!!

That philosophy still exists and people are intitled to their own opinions, but I ask them; ' what about when my cham BEGS to come out and runs up my arm with happy glee??!!
Am I suppost to just brush them off of me and scold them; 'hey! cant you read text books!!?? you arent supposed to like being touched!!?? LOL

How about when little Squee runs up my arm and camps right in the middle of my back where he KNOWS I cant reach him!!?? He likes it there, and I have a hard time getting him off without having to take my shirt off!!

I only have one cham, little Smidget, who doesnt want to be touched, he does not care what I do, and can even work and clean around him, but the second my hand goes near his head, it's met with hissing and snapping.

But, I work and interact with all my chams every day, weather it's taking them out from sun or free range, or hand feeding, or just putting my hand in the cage.
So they arent just 'lumps on sticks' starring at me when I walk by, I get them out and about and involved :)

Maybe Smidget will tame some day and maybe not, but at least he is used to me being around and is no longer affraid.

Yes yes yes that is exactly what I am saying! Your chameleon is all cute and cuddly. Trying "cuddling" with my guy. Everyone I bring around is like "he is awesome but you can hold him. It sucks cause i want them to hold him but they are scared of him. I have never been bitten though and am really the only one who is able to hold him and thats because i feel like i do some of the right things like holding him up high to get him to calm down and don't stare right into his face or move fast. If they like it then by all means hold as much as you want. Even though mine doesn't like being held and hisses i also still work with him a lot even though he may not like it. He still after a long time is showing no sign of "liking" it any better. Thats why im finding it so hard to believe someone when they say any chameleon will get better with enough work. Maybe some won't and I am beginning to,sad as it may be may be have to realize my guy is just one of those very dominant tough guys who is afraid im there eat him. Im afraid to throw the towel in, so for now even though i believe i have one that doesn't like being handled and will never change, I am still gonna try my hardest. Also beginning to wonder now if my guy is the only one that isn't gonna change?

"Take a good look at what your doing" that is emplying that all these very knowledgeable. People who have owned dozens of chameleons for many years are doing something wrong because its also people who are very experienced having these same issues. I'm sorry but when experience. From these guys tells me this is the case with some I'm going to believe it because sadly I'm running into the same issues with mine. Also it Is a fact that when male species mature some get more aggressive. Not just speculation.not everyone's but alot do.

They are all different ! They all take different tactics to tame. Never give up. Its not suppose to be easy, it an exotic pet !! Chameleons can live a happy life, with or without being handled. My guy is the sweetest, and if his mood changes then some of my actions will as well. The bond is a bond and can change but people give up and say "oh he's mean now", when that's not the case. So many things can set these creatures off.. So don't blame the cham only, your the one raising them :)
