Anyone have a hova bator?

I got my hova bator from lllreptile today and just finished putting it together. The directions say to turn the adjusting screw for the desired temperature until the light goes on. I get the light to go on and after a few minutes it goes off? is this normal? I need to get this bad boy working right for the next time I have a clutch of eggs ready.

i herd they werent good because they heat up to much and there mostly used for chicken eggs. u should get an exo-terra they heat and cool

I have one - they are kind of tricky to adjust the temps. I think the light goes on when it's heating and goes off when its at the set temp. I had to keep turning and adjusting to get it to the right temp.

I can't tell you how well it works yet. I have eggs in it and eggs in my closet. Same clutch - I'm testing each method to see if there is a difference.

A few things. First - I actually personally used a hovabator for years. They are awesome little incubators for the price! They do NOT overeat when they are set up correctly. They are a very simple design, but are not digital, so they are a bit more time consuming to get adjusted to the right temp when you first get it. The light goes on when it heats, and shuts off when it reaches the temp it is set at. Instructions on how to set it up, and how to set up your eggs came inside the incubator - but if you have any further specific questions - just call us toll free at 888-54-Reptile during business hours. Thanks - and good luck!

I have the exo terra for my Cham eggs and I am using the hovabator for crickets and silkies and it actually works great. I would definitely use it for Cham eggs if I needed to, now that I have been using it for awhile. Once you get the desired temp by turning the handle, it maintains the temp really well. I am actually surprised how well it works. I bought it for feeders and was pleasantly surprised. I agree with LLL reptile. It is great for the price. I will probably purchase more

I've done an entire season (4 clutches) of bearded dragon eggs this year ,4000 silkworm eggs (heh does that count?) and currently have snapping turtle eggs in it. They work great for small breeding jobs if you ask me. Havent lost a fertile egg to it yet!

They are rather sensitive to adjustment so once you have it set and need to adjust it only takes a tiny move of the adjustment nob to drop or raise it a degree or two. I would recommend placing it somewhere where the temperature is as non-variable as possible for best results. Closets seem to work well for me but right now its tucked under a bearded dragon cage in the living room where the temperatures are more variable and it still holds steady.

Excellent little device for the money.

I have one that I have bird eggs in and once I got the temp adjusted it hasn't moved since it's super constant, I have a thermometer on each side and in the middle and all different brands read the same thing so the temp is consistent, I have it in my extra bathroom which is the coolest room in the house but only counter top space I had avail. for it. Despite the cooler bathroom temp remains the same but I DO have a tiny little fan installed. It's really tiny like you can barely feel it..but I'm sure it helps circulate the air a tad and keep it constant. For birds it's wonderful but totally not needed for Cham eggs since you don't need fan circulation. Anyway for the price it's awesome. I'll be trying my first reptile eggs in it once it gets cold. I plan to do the closet method over summer and then stick them in the incubator once it gets cool and for the harsh winters we get here. Just turn a tad at a time, light goes on if it turns off before I was at my temp I'd turn til light went on then kept increasing like that a bit at a time. Takes patience at first but once it's set it's set :) Can't beat the price!

Mine works fine. For me the trick was to just plug it in and let it eqilibrate. Once the temp had steadied I knew what it was set at and then adjusted a bit. Then I let it equilibrate again etc. It took me a few days. Once I had it set it keeps it pretty steady. I have my second batch in it right now and it keeps a steady temp all day, every day. Yes, it is rudimentary compared to some others, but as stated; it keeps a steady temp for me.
