Anyone use REPTAID?

Jann, did he give a reason?

I've tried it a couple times but never with any noticeable difference.I gave it a try because other members on here that I respect with lots of montane species experience recommended it, so I gave it a whirl. But can't say one way or another whether it does anything. It does, however, taste like butt and chameleons do not like the taste of it.

I've used it and had success with it when WC came in with a mouth infection, and another with mild URI. In both cases I used a Q-tip to swab out the mouth. I did try it by using the drops orally like the directions say for a URI with no noticeable effect, but by swabbing out the mucous with it on a Q-tip on a regular basis I was able to clear it up.

Yeah, and like Olimpia said, they hate the taste. I tried it just to see how bad it is and I can see why.

I would not use it in place of antibiotics or parasite treatments. AFAIK, there have been no official studies on effectiveness in chameleons. I use it as one tool in an arsenal.

I have spoken to my veterinarian about this product and he thinks that if the animal is in a compromised position for whatever reason then yes the natural ingredients will do some good. The animal is getting the proper nutrients from the ReptAid that are missing from his/her diet because of improper feeding, gutloading and overall husbandry and the animal will obviously show some improvement from using it.

However, does he think that it is a magical elixir that will cure everything? Absolutely not.

I don't think there are nutrients in the stuff. Mostly a mix of herbal oils and alcohol IIRC. Like what a naturopath might give you in place of antibiotics which may or may not work depending on the severity of your condition.

This little back and forth, takes me back to the 90's. When all the new 'vitamins' for reptiles and fish were coming out. I used to taste test each one to see if they were real or not. Most didn't taste like "butt", but then again I have never tasted butt. Most tasted of some cherry flavoring. The first day pig-ears came out for dogs in our area, a lady dared me to eat one for $100. Needless to say, I had dinner and a $100 left over. Back to the reptaid, being that it had that kind of taste makes me curious. Like I said most of the fakes, were easily detected. Quite possibly could contain real 'ingredients'.
