Appetite...

Hello all, I am new to this forum...anyway I have a veiled chameleon (got him when he was a baby at about 2 weeks old and now he is about 5 months old)

for the past month his appetite doesn't seem to be what it used to be...he used to be able to put down almost 20 crickets a day. It's tough to monitor how much hes eating but I think it is about 5-10 a day now. Anything I should know about that?

also, when he was younger I kept him in an aquarium and when I held a shot glass with crickets he would come up and snatch some from the shot glass...about 2 months ago I got him a reptarium and it doesn't seem as though he likes to feed from the shot glass anymore.

yea, he may not enjoy your company anymore. lol not being rude, but he may just scared of you. as far as the feeding goes my adult vieled hasnt had much to eat at all over the past month. It might be the time of the year. I wouldnt worry to much as long as he is eatting.

Welcome to the forum!

Welcome to the forum. Keep reading posts every day. You will find that others have similar questions. Depending on where you live, it could be seasonally related. Have you tried other feeder insects? Many chams seem to get tired of crickets as they get older. They appreciate a wider variety. Babies and juvies seem to enjoy pounding down crickets. Older chams seem to get a little more selective. Have you tried silkworms? Also, what kind of lighting and heating do you have in his new setup? Is your Avatar the chameleon in question? It's a beautiful one. We would enjoy seeing more pictures of him :)

Every now an then I will find a grasshopper, but other than that haven't really tried anything else...others than silkworms what can I feed him?

Right now I have him close to a window (open the blinds during the days then close them at night to try to insulate from the cold a bit)
-I have a 26 watt florescent (that I turn off at about 9pm)...my daytime 150 watt heat bulb broke about a week ago so I have just been using my 100 watt infa-red light 24 hours a day now..(is this alright?)

Yes, that was a baby picture of my male veiled chameleon Archimedes (Archy for short)...the first picture was taken in late July when he was a baby; the second and third pictures were taken in early October...he grew fast!
