Are Hornworms Considered A Pest?

Was reading a old topic on another reptile forum where someone asked why hornworms are never allowed in the UK. One member posted saying that hornworms are banned from the UK and to breed them because they are considered a pest. Is that true?

Shame the UK can't get a hold of them for our chams :(

Yes that is true - in my four years of chameleon ownership I have never seen horn worms available in the UK. Similarly, locusts are not available as feeders in the US either.

Yes,they are considered pest, they will eat any leafy greens, they can destroy crops in a few days.

On Mullberry Farms Hornworms Cup

It says that the hornworms are considered a pest insect and releasing them to the wild is a crime

Very Interesting. I have been wondering that over the last two months. All my books say locusts are great feeders. However, no one sells them! Are there any other feeders that are illegal in certain areas?
