Are money trees toxic to Veiled Chameleons?

Alright, i know that, right off the bat, this is going to be extremely controversial, however I think this information could be very very useful for tons of people. The only way i can think to say it is that it is an 'experiment' or a 'test' and that sounds horrible to 'test' on your beloved pet but I think that even if there is a bad outcome, it still may be able to save other people from making a mistake. There is lots of controversy on whether or not money trees are toxic or nontoxic to chameleons and i purchased one two days ago and put it in with my almost one year old female veiled chameleon, Sophie. She has been nibbling on the leaves for the last two days and does not seem to be acting anything but normal. I will check back in in a day or two and let you all know how it is going. Im sorry if this upsets you and i know it will upset some people but i really think it could be useful

When you say money tree, what do you mean? Many plants are known as money trees. Are you talking about a jade tree succulent, or something else?

No I understand your logic and I can see how it would be controversial. I personally would not want to take the risk just because I've already had a bit of bad luck in the past, but I agree that it's hard to know for sure unless it's tested. Let me know how it goes, hope she'll be okay!

Thank you very much! I appreciate your understanding. Ill definately keep it posted on the forum and for the record, i honestly thinkshe will be just fine. If it was super bad, she would probably be dead or at the least, acting different within two days

I just did a quick google search and came across a tortoise forum where everyone said they use Pachira aquatica for their enclosures and they said that it is non toxic. Didnt know if you had already came across that or not. I can link it if you want.

I have read that however, maybe a link might be good for someone else who views this thread? Also ive read lots saying that it is toxic and lots that it is not and definately a few inbetweeners stating that its just not worth the risk. How could we even know if nobody takes the risk?!

Here's the link for anyone wanting to read it: http://www.tortoiseforum.org/threads/money-tree-for-morons-like-me.153312/

This money tree thing seems to be like the schefflera actinophylla argument. People that use it says it's fine and people that don't say not to use it because it's to much of a risk. I love plants, so I'm always interested in knowing which ones are safe for my reptiles. If your girl is fine, I hope more people try it out to get a definite answer.

I agree entirely and i love plants so much. My room has got a nice bit of plants and i dont think there are many people out there ballsy enough to put their beloved pets health on the line. And its defiantly not because i dont love her

I completely understand. As pet owners we know when not to push it. As long as they're healthy from the start and there's no proof that it's toxic then it's fine. We know that If we start seeing their health decline then we remove the plant and tell people about our experience. Also if I had a bigger room I would have way more plants, I've started moving them into the living room and I think my mom likes it, but my sister hates plants so it drives her crazy lol.

I really didnt expect anyone to be on my side with this to be honest. I was hoping atleast to help people whilst having them mad at me for potentially harming my Sophie

hi , don't know for sure but save for cats I know this for sure. Now Chameleons that a different store . I'm always shopping for plants and always pulling out my IPhone to check for safe plants before I checkout at the stores. And I never ask the workers cus I don't trust them.

Experimenting is cruel when it's unnecessary. I have used money trees without issue for Panthers so I won't speak on that. But if something is possibly harmful, with no possible reward in return, then it's not really experimenting. It's just being selfish(sorry to be blunt). It's not like the money tree may enrich the chams life. There are plenty of other options that are just as good and better that are known to be safe. They aren't even good plants for the most part, it's just an aesthetic thing.
