Are we bonding or Speedy is toying with my feelings?

Hi everyone,

So I have had my Veiled Chameleon soon to be a month on May 27. He is still a baby I say he is 4in long.

I have taken Speedy out with a wooden stick and use my other hand to make him get on because he always runs away, but once on my hand he is fine. Even though he is on me he is still skittish because at times he hiss or gets big in size sometime and wants to bite. I try to leave him on me for about 5-10min then he goes back. I rarely take him out. I can say I have taken him out about 5/6 times since I got him.

I ask are we some what bonding or he just toying with my feelings because when I have him on the stick and he sees my husband or son he automatically runs on my hand, goes up my arm and tries to hide. It's strange because he gets mad at me, but when he sees them he runs to me to rescue him. I swear he truly is confusing. I don't want him to be scared or mad at me when I have him, so can anyone give me any pointers to make him feel comfortable around me instead of being skittish or wanting to bite.

Thanks

Just keep it up, he will start to trust you more. My veiled usually always comes to me now and has for some time, she is just now coming around to my wife. Blanche never hisses or bites, I've had her for 4 months and only heard her hiss once.

chameleons of any sort like to climb up. so if the stick is lower than say your shoulder, he will climb up to your shoulder. at least that's what I've got from my experience.

when he goes to your shoulder has it tried to bite? Mine, he is always on a defense mode. It's kind of frustrating for me :cautious:

Lol sometimes I wish blanche was more temperamental, I think emotions are funny, especially anger. An angry chameleon has to be doubly funny.

He definitely isn't "toying with your feelings". Try to think of the situation from his perspective: Any large creature moving towards him is a threat, a potential predator. But when he's on you, you become a sort of tree or branch to him. He can use you to hide from your husband or son, who are now more potential predators.

No he has never tried to bite me. but then again. I never act fast around her. she has tried to bite my brother. however he kinda poked her. but other than that. anyone who has tried hasnt had a problem. try wearing a different color.

Just remember, your cham isn't really going to "bond" with you or anyone else. They don't have that social need. Some are just more accepting than others. Also, your cham doesn't care about you or what you want one bit. He won't tease you or toy with your feelings . He will want what he wants when he wants it, as they live in the moment.

Lol yeah a reptile is not a dog just me being silly. I'll keep trying with him though.
