such a happy boy even hand feeding.:D

A couple of things! What are you using for your UVB lighting? Secondly, i would remove the substrate on the bottom. i know it is not going to look as nice but honestly your cham could injest it. There was just a member on here yesterday who lost a female veild cham who shot at a cricket and got some dirt or whatever they were using for substrate in their mouth and swallowed it and died. There have been others too. We have to remember most chameleons live up in the trees and do not spend that much time down on the forest floor. We create these contained environments which force them to search for feeders on the bottom and they wind up getting things in their mouths that shouldn't be.

the uvb is a repti glo 5.0 as for the substrate it was just to copy what he had before i got him.

Hello and welcome to the forums!
Overall your set up looks great! I will second the losing the substrate carol suggested. While in petshops that have substrate, i have personally watched quite a few chameleons shoot at crickets on the floor, get it stuck and struggle for quite awhile to get it out of their mouths. Just kind of removing a problems before it ever happens.

Second, i would add a few more vines around your basking spot. I've found with mine they like to pick and choose how close to the heat they are. In the morning i find them getting as close as possible, while in the afternoons staying at a lower distance. Just a thought.

:)

From that angle, it looks one or two branches right by each other on the same level, maybe i'm just not seeing it correctly.

He is going to love that new cage with how big its going to be. Have fun setting it up

I know, the petstores do it here too and it is just an accident waiting to happen really. We can only suggest to you what we have learned from our own experiences or from others on here. I would just hate to have something happen to your cham that could have been prevented. Good on the reptiglo 5.0!

what would you put down on the bottom? loving the help.:)

At first, i was using paper towls on the bottom, but i got sick of the soggy clean up. Plus their is a forum member on here named" HOJ" that had some sort of bad experience with paper towls but i cant remember what it was.

I use a plain bottom and just spot clean everyday or when needed. Then a full good cleaning once a month.

most of us use nothing! Some people paper towels, but once again, something that was injested when shooting a cricket so you have to be careful! Remember chameleons tongues are sticky! Bare floor is best really. It is the most sanitary and easy to clean.

with his new cage i want to make the bottom water tight with a drainage system and a full water drip system.

so glad to hear you are asking for advice and then following through! Some people come on here and we try and help them and they basically ignore what we say.Everyone of us started out just like you and we all learn from one another on here. It is a great place and glad to have you on board! We are all here cause we share a bond and that is our love for chameleons!
